after traveling to Japan over 12 times and living in Taiwan for 4 years, there is a clear difference of things Taiwan does better… and it’s hard to see which country is better overall! 😩
1. NIGHT MARKET CULTURE 🍢
night markets in Taiwan are BUSTLING with so much energy, color, food, and smells! this is truly an experience you can’t forget after visiting 🥺
my favorites in Taipei:
📍Ningxia Night Market
📍Raohe Night Market (I only go for their stinky tofu!)
📍Linjiang Night Market
2. PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SIMPLICITY 🚆
the MRT in Taiwan, I think, is UNMATCHED! it is so simple yet efficient at the same time and you really cannot get lost here! it’s so easy to navigate, especially for foreigners because everything is in English! you also don’t have to exit stations to transfer to a different line 🤦🏻♀️
3. COST OF LIVING + TRAVEL ✈️
TAIWAN is CHEAP!!! I love coming to Taiwan because you can get full on meals that would cost like a coffee here in the states or even Japan! 🤯
4. LAID BACK VIBES 😎
while there is etiquette in every country, there is more leeway here compared to Japan as what you should or shouldn’t do! Taiwanese are also one of the friendliest people I have ever met - they truly go out of their way to help you because they want to.. not because they feel like they should 🥹
BUT ANYWAYS, I know each country has its pros and cons - Taiwan will always have a place in my heart and as you probably already know, I also love Japan…. it’s hard to choose which is better!
