Many families in Toronto are overpaying for transit — simply because they don’t know about this program. There is a city program called Fair Pass Transit Discount Program that provides a discount on public transit for residents with low or moderate income. And many people are actually eligible for it — they just never applied. What the program offers: ✔️ discounted fares on Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) ✔️ cheaper PRESTO card fares and monthly passes ✔️ savings of hundreds of dollars per year 💰 How much you actually pay with the discount: • Regular TTC fare: $3.30 • Fair Pass fare: about $2.10 per ride ➡️ saving about $1.20 every trip 📅 Monthly pass: • Regular price: about $156 • With Fair Pass: about $123 ➡️ saving $30+ every month The discount applies to the TTC system — subway, buses, and streetcars. 📌 Who can apply Usually Toronto residents who receive or qualify for one of the following supports: • Ontario Works • Ontario Disability Support Program • or meet the City of Toronto income eligibility criteria Once approved, the discount is linked to your PRESTO card, so you automatically pay less for each trip. 💡 For families, this can make a noticeable difference — especially if you travel around the city with kids. Also good to know: children under 12 ride TTC for free, so usually only adults need to pay. ⸻ 📍 I always say this: Toronto has dozens of programs that can actually save families money, but very few people know about them.
