*Supernumerary Quota (SNQ)* seats in engineering colleges are additional seats that are reserved for specific categories of students in addition to the regular merit-based seats. These seats are created to provide opportunities for certain disadvantaged or underrepresented groups in the education system. The motive of the supernumerary seats is to give the girls a better chance of joining the IITs in close proximity to their homes and settling for their preferred course. This has made a difference in pulling up the numbers of women students in our BTech programmes, overall and in every single stream. Supernumerary seats were created to reach the 1:4 gender ratio requirement in 2018. In 2018, the rule stated that 14% of the total candidates admitted in a college should have female candidates. In 2020, the count of supernumerary seats increased to 20% for female students.
