When I saw this teapot and all the ceramics from @kiyoware I definitely feel in love. It might be a little small but it makes gong fu cha brewing definitely easier and smarter, the perfect amount of tea for one cup. In this case one cup of Hadong Jaeksal from @dadore_tea 🍃 #ceramics #koreanceramics #teaware #unique #koreantea

Here’s a lovely little mossy green teapot from my last firing, although please don’t go @‘ing me with all those videos online that demonstrate the ‘perfectly’ pouring tiny teapots, have you seen how many need to get smashed in order to find the ones that actually pour without any flaws? It’s worrying. There are complications of countless pristine teapots being hammered to bits to find the few that work faultlessly. If that’s the case, then I’m sure it isn’t that easy to get it right every single time. I can live with a stream of liquid that’s isn’t laminar, if it gets the tea into my cup neatly enough and doesn’t sputter all over the table, that’s all I ask for. The glaze is so vibrant and it shows the clay work beneath wonderfully, which is something I’ve been searching for, for a while now, a glaze that’s both interesting in terms of depth, colour and character, whilst remaining relatively thin as to not cloak the form of the vessel it covers. #pottery #teapot #teaware #craft #satisfying #asmr

Slow weekend, simple ritual. Rock tea brewing, incense gently rising, water softly singing in the kettle. Everything finds its place — teaware, cabinet, and a quiet moment for yourself. Sometimes, it’s not about drinking tea. It’s about creating a space to breathe. DM us if you’d like to build your own tea corner 🤍 #teaceremony #rocktea #teaware #slowliving #teatime

This week I’m throwing, trimming, and assembling a teapot, which, by the way, is the subject of my fully narrated YouTube video this weekend, a link to which you can find via the Linktree in my profile’s biography.   Teapots are always an intimidating form to return to if you’ve not made one for a while, and these are amongst the first I’ve made in an entire year. There’s a lot to remember, a lot of decisions to make, and very little room for compromise when all the parts have to work together as a single object.   During that time away from making them, I’ve still been living alongside teapots in my workshop—pieces I made previously and felt unsure about. Some of the spouts were a touch too large, others were positioned just slightly off, enough to affect both the balance of the form and the way the pot pours. Those small errors have been quietly ruminating in the back of my mind, and I’ve found myself repeatedly returning to them, thinking through how I might correct them the next time I came back to the form. It’s been deeply satisfying to finally find the time and headspace to put those thoughts into practice and begin a new batch.   I also take you through my sketching process: how I draw out rough ideas, filling pages with variations on proportion, volume, and relationship between the different components before settling on a small number of specific shapes that feel worth pursuing. I’ve always found this way of working far more efficient than trying to resolve everything on the wheel. Being able to quickly ‘see’ dozens of possibilities on paper gives me a clearer sense of direction, and truthfully, it’s much faster to fill a page or two with drawings than it is to throw, trim, and assemble every possible idea just to discover which ones don’t quite work.   By the time I move to the clay, many of the decisions have already been made, allowing the making itself to feel calmer, more deliberate, and ultimately more enjoyable.   Thanks so much for watching!   #teapot #teaware #handmade #pottery #ceramics

A wide Shiboridashi teapot is deceptively simple.
Every decision here affects how it works later. Size comes first.
A shiboridashi should sit comfortably in one hand - anything larger loses its purpose. Wall thickness matters more than it seems.
Too thin, and the vessel overheats in use or risks deformation during firing.
Too thick, and it loses sensitivity. The transition from wall to base needs to be perfectly smooth.
No sharp corner, no interruption - just a continuous curve, so nothing catches, nothing resists. The gallery has to be precise.
It supports the lid and helps filter very fine tea leaves without forcing the pour. The pour itself is shaped gently, without breaking the circle of the form.
Any distortion here affects both the fit of the lid and the way the tea flows. I throw the body first, measure carefully, and only then make the lid - thrown upside down - so both parts meet without tension the next day, during trimming and assembly. Shiboridashi works when nothing draws attention to itself.
When every detail disappears in use. #shiboridashi #teaware #functionalceramics #wheelthrown #wheelthrowing
