THTecno has unveiled a new ultra‑thin modular concept phone that uses magnetic add‑on modules instead of traditional built‑in hardware.
What it isTecno calls the system “Modular Magnetic Interconnection Technology,” shown as a concept at MWC 2026.
The base phone is extremely slim at about 4.9 mm, with a separate 4.5 mm power‑bank module that keeps total thickness similar to a normal flagship when attached.
How the modular system worksThe back is divided into eight zones with magnets and pogo‑pin connectors; modules snap on there.
Power is passed through pogo pins, while data and control use Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, and even mmWave for some modules.
Types of modulesCamera-focused modules: telephoto/zoom lens blocks, ultrawide options, and a full action‑cam style module that can work wirelessly.
Utility modules: slim power bank, off‑grid communication/walkie‑talkie antenna, wallet-style attachment, speaker, and other creative accessories (roughly 10 modules shown so far).
Design variants and detailsTwo design themes were shown: ATOM (clean silver aluminum with red accents) and MODA (more “geeky” aesthetic).
The whole idea is that you carry the thin base phone and only snap on extra hardware when needed (e.g., creator day with camera grip + lenses, travel day with big battery + off‑grid comms).
Status: concept, not retail (yet)This is currently a concept/prototype showcased at MWC 2026, not a confirmed retail product with pricing or launch dates.
Tecno has used past concepts as inspiration for later mass‑market phones, but there is no guarantee this exact modular phone will ship in the same form.
