HOThe crowd was blessed yesterday at Syracuse, NY with a live version of ‘The Parting Glass’ 🥹
The song is originally from Scotland, but it was made famous by Tommy Makem and the Clancy Brothers in the 1950s.
Commonly sung at Irish funerals, in the song, the singer reflects on their life and the impact they had as they say goodbye to their friends at the end of the day.
Back in April of 2020, Hozier performed this song on ‘The Late Late Show’ as a dedication to everyone who had lost their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic, specially healthcare workers.
Later he released the recording on streaming platforms as a charity single, with all proceeds from the digital release going to the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ISPCC) and Childline.

DESo proud of my 8th/9th grade auditioned choirs!! ♥️This song has been such a fun one. I snagged it at our last umea1945 and thought it would be perfect for my kiddos.
Because of its old English heritage, we thought it would be fun to pull the tone out a little bit on this one to a more brighter resonance. (Which can create its own side of issues however I thought my kids did a really great job on it.)

SO“The Parting Glass!” I dearly love this traditional Irish and Scottish folk song- And here I’ve included an extremely sweet verse that’s often excluded (at least on this side of the pond) about the narrator’s sweetheart.
To my understanding, this is a traditional Scottish folk song that became very popular in Ireland- so much so that it’s most often associated with Ireland. One source I’ve read says that it was amongst the most popular parting songs sung in Scotland before Robert Burns adapted “Auld Lang Syne.” The Clancy Brothers made this song popular in the 1960s and 1970s when they recorded it on various albums.
