On our weekend trip to Calgary, we visited the Devonian Gardens at The CORE Shopping Centre in Downtown. Honestly it felt like such a peaceful escape right in the middle of the city. There’s greenery all around, a calming pond with fish, birds flying indoors and so many benches where people were just sitting, relaxing, and enjoying the quiet vibes. It’s such a family-friendly spot and Totally FREE to visit. The indoor play area is for kids, lots of insta worthy photo spots and there’s a food court right there, so you can grab something to eat and enjoy it surrounded by nature. Whether it’s cold, snowy, or raining outside, this place stays cozy and beautiful all year round. The perfect little escape in any season. We started the night off with some 10-pin bowling while sampling some of the tasty menu items. (The mozza sticks were delish!) The updated bowling lanes look amazing-- perfect for a little friendly family competition!⠀ ⠀ Next up: mini golf on an Alberta-themed 9-hole mini golf course, with landmarks like the Banff sign and Calgary's Centre Street Bridge. Such a cute course. The Penguin Walk at the zoo is happening right now and it’s one of the most wholesome things you can do this winter in Calgary. Here’s everything you need to know before you go ↴ (But first, save this so you don’t forget before March!) 🐧 13 king penguins march from the Penguin Plunge exhibit to the Discovery Trail Bridge and back. Not all 13 penguins walk every time. Only the ones who feel like it get to join, so your experience might look a little different each visit. 📅 Runs daily at 10:30am until March 15th, 2026. The walk gets cancelled if it’s warmer than 5°C or colder than -25°C so check the weather before you head out so you’re not disappointed. ⏳ The whole thing takes about 15-20 minutes from start to finish so don’t show up late thinking you have time. You don’t. 💡 Pro tip: It gets busy but don’t stress if you can’t see them on the way out, the penguins walk the same route back, and most people leave after the first pass so stay put, let the crowd thin out, and you’ll get an even better view the second time around. This is the kind of thing that sounds small but genuinely shifts your mood in the middle of a long winter. If you’ve been hibernating and waiting for a reason to get outside, this is it.
