MOChris Hemsworth’s Secret Cameo in Loki S1E5
• Around the 9:09 mark of Episode 5, a frog trapped in a jar briefly appears as the Loki variants go underground. The frog resembles Thor and is revealed to be Frog Thor, aka Throg, a deep-cut Marvel Comics reference.
• The jar is labeled “T365,” referencing Thor #365. As producer Eric Martin noted, “Comic fans will notice the Frog of Thunder in that jar,” confirming the Easter egg was intentional.
• Martin revealed Throg was originally planned for a larger role, saying, “We actually shot a scene for the Time Theater in Ep 1 of Loki getting pummeled by Frog Thor, but had to cut it to keep things moving.”
• The cut sequence would have appeared during Mobius’ TVA montage, showing Loki ruling Asgard before being defeated by Throg. Martin added, “It’s too bad, because Tom was funny as hell.”
• Director Kate Herron confirmed Chris Hemsworth secretly voiced Throg and “recorded” new lines, though only a brief yell made it into the final episode.
• Herron recalled Hemsworth enjoying the role, saying, “Chris was… I think he was into it,” and remembered him laughing during the recording.
• Composer Natalie Holt revealed the moment was scored as a grand sequence, stating, “I had actually written something with choir for it… you see Thor as a frog.”
• Holt confirmed the shot of Loki rising on Asgard’s throne was part of that deleted scene, adding, “Yeah! That was part of it.”
• The deleted Frog Thor sequence later appeared on Loki’s physical media, described as Mobius reviewing Loki’s timeline “in which Frog Thor makes an appearance.”
• Throg was previously referenced in Thor: Ragnarok, where Loki admitted he regretted turning Thor into a frog.
