Its only right we celebrate with that legendary clip of his first UK performance in Romford back in 2003...
While Todd’s productions had very little success and impact in the US where he was from, they had become vastly popular in the UK during the 90’s and early 00’s.
Friends of Todd would often visit Europe & the UK and report back to him with just how popular his music was becoming, much to his disbelief. Several bouts of depression coupled with stage fright prevented Todd from ever crossing the pond to see this for himself.
It wasn’t until 2003 that the Godfather of UK Garage finally came to the UK. Not only was this Todd’s first ever UK gig, it was his biggest ever, by a long way.
With very little understanding of the UK scene, Todd faced his fears and took to the decks in Romfords Time & Envy while famously wearing the now iconic ‘Jesus Loves UK Garage’ T-Shirt. An MC helped rile-up the crowd as Todd played, something Todd had never experienced before.
The MC then asked for several wheel ups and Todd would just stop the music as he did not know what this was. It was all very new to him. He was in sheer disbelief at how engaged and excited the crowd were with him and his music.
Luckily these moments were captured on camera and that performance will go down as historic not just for the UK Garage scene but the UK scene as a whole 💫
