JA#TRICKTUESDAY // Half Half Triffis Tuck
I want to share a story about this particular half half triffis tuck. Out of all the Trick Tuesday videos, this was the only skill I got right on the very first try. I’m not saying this to brag about the quality of my half half trif because, to be honest, I never considered myself particularly good at it. However, there’s more to this story, and it contains an important lesson.
Before attempting the half half trif, I spent the first half of my practice filming half half tuck, which is a similar but much easier skill as it only uses two somersaults instead of three. I focused on perfecting the form and technique of my half half tuck for over an hour before I tried half half trif. Here’s what I focused on;
🔹 Keeping my arms narrow and reaching up for a square takeoff (biceps to ears!)
🔹 Waiting until I left the bed to initiate the tilt twist
🔹 Keeping my upper body vertical without leaning my shoulders back too much
🔹 Snapping my toes up off the bed to generate backward rotation
🔹 Holding the straight body position for a moment as I left the bed before snapping into a tight tuck
While I did not perform all these elements perfectly, I discovered that focusing on the basic elements of a solid and technically sound take-off naturally led to a high-quality skill. And that’s the important lesson here!
We don’t improve our big tricks by mindlessly hucking them over and over again. That only reinforces bad habits and slows down progress. Instead, the key is to focus on perfecting the basics. By doing so, we can truly enhance the execution of our skills and achieve better competition results.
