Meet Ash Saba, a 2026 TCS Sydney Marathon Community Ambassador and proof that the best things in life start completely by accident. Ash didn’t set out to become a runner. He laced up in 2019 just to keep warm, and somewhere between that first step and 7 races later (2 half marathons, 5 marathons and counting), running became something much bigger than fitness. It became connection. For Ash, the magic of this sport has never been about pace, but the shared energy of thousands of people chasing something difficult together. As a Community Ambassador, his goal is to make sure every runner - whether it’s their first time or fifth - feels that. This year, Ash is bringing his story, his warmth, and his belief in what running does for the mind and the body to our community. And if you’re still on the fence about whether running is for you? Meet Patrick O’Brien, a 2026 TCS Sydney Marathon Community Ambassador and the kind of person who decided that Wednesday nights were too good to waste on anything other than running. Seven years ago Patrick laced up and never really stopped. Today he is a dad of two, a four-time TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS runner, and the founder of Top Run, a Wednesday night run club built on three things that matter more than pace: consistent training, genuine connection, and the kind of community that makes you show up even when you don’t feel like it. For Paddy, running has never been about who finishes first but who shows up, who sets a goal they did not think possible, and who discovers somewhere along the 42.2km that the journey was the whole point. This year he brings that same energy to our community. Meet Dennis Volmer, a 2026 TCS Sydney Marathon Community Ambassador and example of how powerful it can be to start again. Dennis discovered running at a time when movement had taken a back seat to the demands of parenting and everyday life. That first run was tough, but it sparked something he now can’t imagine going without. With a background in basketball and MMA, Dennis brings a determined, athletic mindset into marathon running in his mid‑40s. His approach is honest and straightforward: you get out what you put in, and real progress comes from mindset, consistency and self‑awareness. His running story started with the simple decision to move. And from that, everything grew. It’s a reminder that running doesn’t require perfection or a certain type of person. It just needs someone willing to show up, even on the days it feels hard. Dennis represents strength, identity and clarity through the kilometres, a meaningful voice to our 2026 journey. Adrian started running in 2022 with casual 5km runs, and through the support of Sydney’s running community, found himself on the marathon start line just a year later. What stood out wasn’t just how fast he progressed, but how strongly community carried him through every step of that journey. This year, he’s leading by example. As a former Vice President of @usydrunclub and an active presence across multiple Sydney run collectives, Adrian values showing up for others and reinforcing the importance of true support. After volunteering at the TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS in 2025, he’s returning in 2026 as a Community Ambassador and chasing his first Abbott World Marathon Major Star. 7️⃣ Adrian reminds us that no one runs a marathon alone, and helps represent what it means when growth is built through support. We’re looking for experienced marathoners with recent race times and prior pacing skills. Don’t worry if you’re new to pacing - all levels are welcome to apply. Selection is merit-based, so we’ll be looking at your ability to maintain consistent splits and how your experience stacks up against others aiming for the same target times. It really is amazing how dedicated the team is and so amazed at all the work these go getters do! Excited and proud to be part of it! Body regretted it by the end of the day and I was running on fumes once we had 3!!!! Rounds of go karting @justinluigi_ 🫩🫩 Come by every month! Wear tests available from Asics on some weeks, hydration and fuelling provided at select runs, and pacers to help achieve your targets!
