HOTurkish delight! (But with a kid friendly twist!)
• 2 cups sugar
• 1 cup water
• 1 tablespoon lemon juice
•½ cup cornstarch
•1 teaspoon cream of tartar
• 1½ cups water (for starch mixture)
• 1-2 teaspoons extract
•A few drops red food coloring
•½ cup powdered sugar (for coating)
•2 tablespoons cornstarch (for coating)
-In a saucepan, combine 2 cups sugar + 1 cup water + lemon juice.
-Bring to a boil over medium heat without stirring.
-Let it simmer until it reaches 240°F (soft-ball stage).
-Remove from heat and set aside.
-In another pot, whisk together ½ cup cornstarch + cream of tartar + 1½ cups water.
-Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thick and glue-like.
-Slowly pour the hot sugar syrup into the starch mixture while stirring.
-Reduce heat to low and cook for 45-60 minutes, stirring often.
-It will turn thick, glossy, and pale golden.
-Stir in extract and food coloring (if
