Starting 26 March 2026, the UK has suspended new study visa applications from: • Afghanistan • Cameroon • Myanmar • Sudan The government says it’s to stop visa system “abuse” after a rise in asylum claims from student routes. Critics say it removes one of the few safe legal pathways for people from conflict-affected regions. This is the first time the UK has used an “emergency brake” like this on study visas — and it could affect thousands of future students.
