THIndia has issued a strong rebuttal to Switzerland at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), describing the Swiss delegation’s remarks on minorities in India as “surprising, shallow, and ill-informed.”
The exchange took place in Geneva during the 60th Session of the UNHRC, where Switzerland — currently holding the Council’s presidency — urged India to protect minorities and safeguard free speech and media rights.
Responding on behalf of India, Kshitij Tyagi, Counsellor at the Permanent Mission, rejected the statement, accusing Switzerland of wasting the Council’s time with “false narratives.”
He further urged Switzerland to focus on its own problems of racism, systemic discrimination, and xenophobia.
