When I was in college Sac City was producing a bunch of dudes. Their Ace was middle to upper 90s(elite for the time) and their centerfielder was committed to Miami. I remember hearing about some of their unconventional training and it included throwing softballs and swimming a lot for their pitchers. I hadn’t really thought about it until I saw someone talking about Dominicans doing “velocity” training by throwing softballs. It’s a simple and cheap constraint instead of a pack of Plyoballs or weighted balls. The ball is heavier, so it’s overload training, and thrown at slower speeds potentially creates less stress on the arm. The grip is also wider potentially creating less stress on the forearm and elbow. I’ve also noticed it help to clean up the arm path, for me shortening it, allowing the arm to be on time at front foot strike more often.
