Today, Rep. Brewer introduced two pieces of legislation. The first requires drug and alcohol testing after an officer’s use of force and the second is a resolution to recognize October 22 as the National Day Against Police Brutality in Ohio. Rep. Brewer was joined by advocates and families who have been impacted by police violence. The legislation now awaits committee assignments.

CBP Chief Greg Bovino defended federal agents’ actions on protesters at the Broadview facility in the Chicago area, calling their use of force “exemplary.” He said officers used “the least amount of force necessary to accomplish the mission,” despite videos showing agents deploying pepper balls and chokeholds on protesters.

Tensions are rising in Los Angeles after a woman claimed she was hit in the abdomen by a 40mm less-lethal round during an anti-ICE protest. She alleges the projectile was fired by officers with the Los Angeles Police Department as police worked to clear the area amid escalating unrest. The allegation has drawn heightened concern because the woman says she was pregnant at the time. The claim spread quickly across social media, fueling renewed debate over crowd-control weapons, oversight, and how police operations affect vulnerable individuals. Advocates are demanding an independent review, while authorities say any use of force is evaluated through established procedures, including body-camera evidence. The incident has intensified questions about protest policing and public safety. #UseOfForce #ProtestRights #PublicSafety #Riots #unitedstates

The Justice Department has opened a federal civil rights investigation into the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti by federal immigration officers, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said Friday. This is a significant shift from the administration’s previous announcement that it would only pursue a narrower “use of force” review, led by the investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security. A civil rights investigation could result in criminal charges against the officers involved in Pretti’s death in Minneapolis on Jan. 24. The FBI is now leading the probe with support from the Civil Rights Division, which Blanche appeared to downplay. “I don’t want the takeaway to be that there’s some massive civil rights investigation that’s happening,” Blanche said Friday. “This is what I would describe as a standard investigation by the FBI when there’s circumstances like what we saw last Saturday.” Blanche did not explain why Pretti’s case prompted a civil rights investigation, while there was no such action taken after fatal shooting of Renee Good two weeks earlier. After Good’s killing, Blanche suggested that there would not be a civil rights investigation into her case because the DOJ Civil Rights Division “does not investigate” every shooting and that “it depends on the circumstances.” The shift comes after videos surfaced showing an earlier confrontation between Pretti and federal agents days before his death. President Trump said on Truth Social Friday that the video undermines claims that Pretti was a peaceful protester. **Mo News uses Snapstream to monitor live video feeds and channels for quick clipping. Today, I introduced a bill to enhance transparency with use of force incidents involving federal agencies by requiring the release of Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) body-worn camera recordings and incident details of federal agencies using force that occur while MPD is present. Thank you to @chairmanphilmendelson for co-introducing this bill which does a few things: * Requires the public release of MPD body-worn camera recordings of all officer-involved deaths or serious use of force incidents as well as the names of all officers involved when available and a description of the incident. For body-worn camera recordings involving an officer-involved death, the decedent’s next of kin must provide consent for the footage to be released. For recordings of a serious use of force incident, the alleged victim or guardian if the victim is a minor must consent to its release. * Requires that MPD’s public database of MPD body-worn camera recordings and names of all officers directly involved with an officer-involved death since January 1, 2026, include names of directly involved federal law enforcement officers, as available. * Requires a roll call record of all federal agents in attendance at daily MPD roll call to provide transparency with MPD joint patrols with federal agencies. Our local Metropolitan Police Department works hard every day to protect the public and maintain community trust; we must ensure that the public has access to information and transparency when federal agents use force in our city. As the federal interference in the District continues to undermine public confidence, my bill will foster accountability and build safer, more collaborative communities.
