So many great trails and hiking, camping, boating, special programs, and some have yurts, cabins, and beaches 📍Virginia currently has 43 state parks and these are among my favs: 1) Belle Isle (great primitive camping & hiking) 2) Grayson Highlands (wild ponies & highest elevation in the state, views are spectacular, hiking, backpacking) 3) Breaks Interstate (1 of 2 bistate parks in US, incredible overlooks, zip lining, cabins, cottages, camping) 4) Hungry Mother (Mollys Knob hike, yurts, camping) 5) Shenandoah River (blue bonnets along river trail, cabins, mountain views) 6) Leesylvania (Potomac Riverfront, trails) 7) Natural Tunnel (chair lift ride, natural tunnel, camping) 8) First Landing (most visited park & beach, tons of campsites) 9) Kiptopeake (Chesapeake Bay, beaches, hiking, kayaking to concrete ghost ships) 10) False Cape (most remote park, great backpacking trip, tons of wildlife) 11) Natural Bridge (215 foot natural bridge once owned by Thomas Jefferson, hiking) 12) Caledon (beautiful mature forest with big trees, primitive camping, beautiful hiking trails) 💰Parking fees vary from park to park. The details: 🚗Park in the large lot at the Visitor Center. 💲Pay the admission fee at the Trail Store before beginning your hike. $9/person 13+, $6/person 6-12, under 6 FREE (or purchase an annual Virginia State Parks pass) 🥾Take the Cedar Creek Trail to view the bridge. 2 mi, easy, out and back 🌳10 miles of trails in the park ⏰Park is open daily 8 am-dusk, Visitor Center 10 am-6 pm Please note: There are 137 steps from the Visitor Center to the trailhead. Share this with someone you want to chase wild ponies in the mountains with 😆 📍Grayson Highlands State Park is located in Southwest Virginia. 🥾Best hike for pony viewing: Wilburn Ridge Via Appalachian Trail (4.5 miles round trip). 🐴Do not feed or touch the wild ponies. They can bite and kick humans so generally just give them their space to roam. 💨The most popular trails are over 4000 feet in elevation leading to cooler temperatures, high winds, and generally unpredictable weather. ⛰️Grayson Highlands is also home to the highest peak in Virginia, Mount Roger’s. #hikevirginia #virginianature #visitvirginia #virginiaisforlovers #hikingadventures #wildponies #mountainlovers

The Camp Store and Big Water Visitor Center are closed for the season. The fishing pier remains open 24 hours a day. Unguarded swimming beach open daylight hours. 🚗 Parking/Admission Fee: $7 Fishing Pier: Ages 6‐12 - $3. Age 13 & up - $5 📌Cabins and lodges are available for rent.
