AR🚦 A simple question changed how we look at city cameras.
What if traffic cameras didn’t just record video…
but actually generated insight?
Every day, thousands of CCTV cameras operate across cities.
They capture vehicles, motorcycles, pedestrians, and traffic flows from morning to night.
But most of the time, these cameras serve only one purpose:
Recording.
The data inside those video streams remains largely unused.
Recently, we ran an applied AI experiment at Simpang Yasmin.
Instead of treating CCTV as a passive video feed, we explored a different perspective:
👉 What if each camera could function as a real-time mobility sensor?
Using computer vision, the system analyzes each frame and identifies what is happening inside the intersection:
🏍️ motorcycles moving through traffic
🚗 vehicles passing through lanes
🚚 trucks entering the junction
🚶 pedestrians crossing the road
Each detection produces structured signals — object type, movement patterns, and confidence levels.
Individually, these detections may appear simple.
But when processed continuously, a different layer of information begins to emerge.
Patterns. 📊
From a single intersection alone, it becomes possible to observe:
📈 traffic flow intensity
🚦 intersection load and congestion dynamics
🚶 pedestrian movement activity
🧭 mobility behavior trends over time
This experiment follows a CPU-first approach.
Rather than relying on specialized GPU infrastructure, the system is designed to run efficiently on standard compute environments — processing around ~15 frames per second on CPU.
This matters for a practical reason.
When AI solutions are efficient and lightweight, they become easier to deploy across many locations without heavy infrastructure investment.
The result is not only technological capability — but also operational productivity.
