DJ3 Things I learned about DJ sets after DJing on a cruise
1. Go with the flow/Read the room
Instead of having a rigid setlist with every track in a specific order, make a playlist with all the tracks you think will work for that set than when set time comes choose the tracks that work for specific moments in the set. (Unless you're James Hype and have some crazy transitions planned lol) There's no way to tell who's gonna dance to what at what time unless you're actually there reading the room. There are some exceptions to this especially if you have certain planned transitions, working with lightning/pyro elements or people are mostly there to hear your music specifically.
2. Requests
When taking requests always remember to be respectful keep the energy posotive. If you know the request and it fits the current vibe of course go ahead and mix it in however, If you don't know the track they requested or it dosent fit the current vibe either save it for later or don't play it. You are the DJ its your job to get people moving on the dancefloor and you should know what you're doing. Don't feel pressure to play a request just to please one person the most important thing is the dancefloor as a whole and most of the time they won't care or remember that you didnt play their song.
3. Energy
Make sure you are well rested and ready for your sets. As a DJ people feed off your energy if you seem tired or upset during a set then the room will reead that off you. If you're tired before your set take a nap if you can, if you're hungry get something to eat, etc. The mental and physical preparation before your set is as important if not more than the actual set itself.
