“My Miserable Letter” is an anguished letter Vita Sackville-West wrote to Virginia Woolf in the mid-1920s, during a moment of emotional distance between them. In it, Vita lays bare her longing, insecurity, and fear of losing Virginia’s affection. The letter reveals the imbalance in their relationship - Vita’s passionate, impulsive love set against Woolf’s guarded, elusive temperament. Raw and unpolished, it shows Vita at her most vulnerable, confessing how deeply Woolf’s silences wounded her. The letter has since become emblematic of their intense, complicated bond and stands as a rare, intimate document of queer desire, emotional dependence, and the ache of loving someone who never quite belongs to you. Back at the cabin. Feeling all the shifting energies. The wild Taurus moon. Pluto's momentous shift. My own seismic rumblings. Time alone, removed and away, gave me space to process, to remember myself. Dearest, I feel certain that I am going mad again. I feel we can't go through another of those terrible times. And I shan't recover this time. I begin to hear voices, and I can't concentrate. So I am doing what seems the best thing to do. You have given me the greatest possible happiness. You have been in every way all that anyone could be. I don't think two people could have been happier 'til this terrible disease came. I can't fight any longer. I know that I am spoiling your life, that without me you could work. And you will I know. You see I can't even write this properly. I can't read. What I want to say is I owe all the happiness of my life to you. You have been entirely patient with me and incredibly good. I want to say that – everybody knows it. If anybody could have saved me it would have been you. Everything has gone from me but the certainty of your goodness. I can't go on spoiling your life any longer. I don't think two people could have been happier than we have been. Who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf? ,1966 🤍 “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is my absolute favorite film!!!! I’ve watched it 7 times, and with every viewing I fall in love with this film all over again. It’s not surprising that it’s my favorite movie, because Elizabeth considered the role of Martha a real performance — she adored this role and was happy to play it 🤍 A funny fact Elizabeth once shared: when she asked acquaintances what they thought about Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, they would say they loved how she played Virginia. This clearly amused her, because her character’s name was Martha 😊 🏷️ #elizabethtaylor #whosafraidofthebigbadwolf #oldhollywood #vintage #elizataylor @elizabethtaylor

Love/Hate Relationship with these Authors ❤️‍🔥 If you’ve studied English Literature, you know this phase. You don’t just read these writers, you SURVIVE them! Virginia Woolf taught us how thoughts spiral endlessly. James Joyce proved that one day can feel like an entire lifetime. T. S. Eliot made poetry feel like an academic obstacle course. Franz Kafka normalised anxiety, alienation, and confusion. Fyodor Dostoevsky handed us existential crises disguised as novels. And Leo Tolstoy reminded us that life, morality, and love are never simple. These writers complicate emotions, slow down reading, and demand more than just attention, they demand emotional stamina. They make English Literature students overthink, feel deeply, and question everything. Do they ruin our mental peace? Absolutely. Do we reread them anyway? Every single time. If you’re an English Literature student, MA English student, or preparing for UGC NET English, you already know this love–hate relationship is part of the syllabus.
