EVERYTHING TO KNOW ABOUT THE W-TREK👇🥾 SAVE for your next trip to Patagonia ⭐️ The W-Trek is a 50 mile, 10,000 ft elevation hike that takes 3-5 days to complete. Since this was our first trek, we opted for the shorter W-Trek (vs. O-Circuit) AND booked premium camping sites. This means we didn’t have to bring any of our camping gear since the refugios will provide it all for you. 🗓️WHEN TO GO We traveled to Patagonia end of December. The best time to visit is between December-February for peak summer season. However, the weather is unpredictable so prepare for rain anyways! ⛺️HOW TO BOOK -There are 6 main refugios in the park that you can choose from to spend the night on the W-Trek route. -Two companies run all the refugios: @lastorres.patagonia and @verticepatagonia . -We booked refugio Central (2 nights) & Frances (1N) — through Las Torres and Paine Grande (1N) and Grey (1N) with Vertice -To book you must reserve campsite and meals online when their reservations go live. The earlier the better! -We booked ~7 months in advance ⛴️TRANSPORTATION -We booked our busses through BusBud -Grey Navegación is the scenic ferry that took us from Grey refugio to Grey Hotel 🍴FOOD -We brought our own freeze dried meals @mtnhouse since refugios provide free hot water and kitchen cook stations for campers -They also have mini markets where you can buy snacks, beer, and other camping meals -Designated meals with the refugios are limited in capacity (see below) 🏔️COST -For campsites only we spent $1,084 for two people (or $542 pp) for 5 nights. -If you book meals then breakfasts start at $30 pp and dinners at $55pp. ⭐️TOTAL COST⭐️ $1,550 for 2 people (campsites, transporation, snacks) This was a 10/10 experience and would recommend to anyone traveling to Patagonia! 3 things I wish I knew before booking my Refugios in Torres del Paine ⛰️ Booking the W Trek can feel overwhelming, and most of the advice online makes it sound way more rigid (and expensive) than it actually is. After hiking it myself, here’s what I wish someone had told me: 1️⃣ You don’t need full room & board Unlike other multi-day treks I’ve done in South America, the refugios in Torres del Paine are surprisingly well stocked. Most sell beer, snacks, and additional food outside of the standard meal plans — things like pizza, sandwiches, and hot meals you can buy à la carte. For some people, skipping full room & board is cheaper, more flexible, and totally sufficient, especially if you don’t want to be locked into fixed meal times. 2️⃣ Not all refugios are created equal The refugios are run by different companies, and the standards vary a lot. Vértice Refugios had clean rooms with fresh linens and better ventilation while Las Torres (Cuernos) had dorms of 6–10 people, sleeping bags instead of linens, and limited ventilation — which is… a lot after a long day of hiking with very tired, very sweaty people. The campsites also differ: Vértice uses more traditional ground tents, while Las Torres offers much nicer, elevated hard-sided tents. My recommendation: book room lodging with Vértice and premium campsites with Las Torres to get the best balance of comfort and value. 3️⃣ Bring extra cash (even if you have meals included) You’ll want it for snacks, coffee, and well-earned beers at the end of the day — trust me. Even with full room & board, I was very happy to have extra cash on hand. Patagonia is beautiful, and these tips would have been super helpful for me to know ahead of time. Save this post for when you’re planning your trek in Torres del Paine. #torresdelpaine #wtrek #patagoniatravel #traveltips #contentcreater

Some of us are truther and some are liars 🥾 The beautiful thing about going on a wild adventure like this with complete strangers is you get to know each other really fast. Past all the surface level things like where we each live and what we do for work we were thrown into a new experience where checking in with each other was the default. We knew where everyone’s blisters and sore spots were and who hadn’t showered in four days. Everything silly and everything serious was done as a trail family and it got us all through these 50 miles on the W trek in Patagonia. ✨ Who do you think you would be before, during, and after this trek? Thanks @zealoustravelco for bringing us all together for such an epic experience! #wtrek #patagoniachile #backpackingadventures #backcountry

Meanwhile my husband just went back to sipping his tea and looking at our trail map of the W Trek in Torres del Paine for the next day like nothing happened. 🫢 Patagonia has an otherworldly beauty but also the unpredictable weather to match. 🫣 Still worth every second. #patagoniachile #wtrek #travelfails

I’m a big travel planner, but preparing for our backpacking month in Patagonia was a challenge even for me! 👀 With lots of information available only in Spanish and some activities I have never done before, there was definitely some room for error! Here are 4 things I did wrong when I traveled to Patagonia: 📋 I did not book everything in advance – for some amazing activities on this trip you have to secure your spot well in advance, and although we tried our best and booked the W trek and some transportation/tours, we did not get around to having everything booked prior. So we missed some great adventures like trekking on the Perito Moreno glacier or paid more for camping accommodation options! 🍳 I didn’t check if every stay I booked had a kitchen… that’s a big NO for any future trips! Turns out there are hostels that don’t really have an equipped kitchen so you just have to eat all your meals out 😐💸 🎒 I overpacked – having to wear 2 or 3 outfits I preferred was not worth dragging a giant and heavy backpack across Patagonia… practical thinking when packing to Patagonia is a super important mindset! 💵 I didn’t take enough cash – especially in Argentina it was a big thing – sometimes when you decide to pay by card, they charge you an additional fee – in some cases even 25% of the price… 🤯 and if you were to withdraw cash - the limits are super low and you get an even bigger fee on an external card... There’s lots of prep involved when traveling to Patagonia… So apart from the things I regret, I’m also really happy with many things I did before embarking on this trip! I did great research on what places to see and how to get around, I included much-needed rest days in the itinerary, and I bought insurance (that we actually needed to use!). I had all the needed hiking gear and technical clothing in many layers that served me well, and I didn’t feel over or underdressed in the changing weather and crazy Patagonian wind. All in all – no matter the issues or struggles – Patagonia is an outstanding place to visit! 🏔️ Are you planning a trip? Let me know in the comments, if you need to know anything! 💚 #patagoniatrip #patagoniatravel #wtrek

On my final hike in Patagonia, I came face to face with a Puma 😳 I turned the corner and there he was, both of us walking towards each other. Thankfully he was uninterested and continued walking up into the trees, but I swear I thought I was going to be breakfast. What’s the craziest animal encounter you’ve had while hiking?! PATAGONIA TREK ON A BUDGET 👀⬇️ When we found out how much the W trek would cost us we were seriously disappointed not understanding HOW or WHY a hiking trail could be so much!!😳 But quickly realized that it was so confusing to book on our own and even then still was more expensive than we thought!💰 Here are some of our key takeaways: ✅Book as early as possible (3+ months ahead of time at least!) ✅ Campsites book out first but it is going to be the cheapest option ✅ Book online for the dinners at the refugios, it is worth it! (bring food for breakfast/lunch) ✅Do it unguided! There are plenty of people on the trail and it is unlikely you get lost! ✅Don’t add any excursions, the hike is insanely beautiful no need to add expensive extras if you’re on a budget🙌🏻 If you’re struggling to book it on your own - we feel you! 😵‍💫 Thats why we created a way to help you book it yourself and avoid paying $2,000+! 🫣 Comment “patagonia” (or check out the l!nk in our b!o) and we’ll send it to you🫶🏼 #patagoniachile #patagonian #wtrek #patagoniatrekking #patagoniatravel #patagoniatrip #hikingtrail #besthikes #epichikes #patagoniaonabudget #budgettraveller #budgettravel #traveladventure #torresdelpaine #chiletravel #argentinatravel

The W Trek is the BEST way to experience the Chilean Patagonia! It is a ~87 kms, 10,000 ft elevation hike that takes 4-5 days to complete! Since this was our first ever multi-day hike, we opted for the shorter W Trek (compared to the O circuit which takes 7 days!) We also had our tents preset up by the refugios! This was a 10/10 experience and we highly recommend to any one travelling to Patagonia! Follow us for the full 5 day itinerary!🙂 #patagonia #torresdelpaine #wtrek #curiouspassports #bucketlist
