WICheck out the list of what the Youth Council has achieved + a big congratulations to two of the Youth Council members - Josh has been selected to take part in the Youth Parliamentary Council representing Whitlam and Chloe was named Young Wingecarribee Citizen of the Year.
Now, have a read through of these amazing achievements the Youth Council had a direct involvement in:
👍🏻 How Council’s communications and engagement will reach young people, with feedback being incorporated into our new Communications and Engagement Strategy.
👍🏻 What youth-led initiatives and events they wanted to see happen in our Shire, and priorities for our new Young Highlands Action Plan.
👍🏻 What a youth precinct could look and feel like, what could be done there and how young people could be made to feel welcome in these spaces.
👍🏻 How Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan could include young people and their families and increase inclusion in our Shire.
👍🏻 How Council can support young people through the inclusion of a Young Achievers Awards in our Community Financial Assistance Framework.
👍🏻 The planning and delivery of the Youth Forum, which saw around 75 young people attend, learn skills that they suggested, and pitch their ideas to Council.
👍🏻 Requesting briefings from Council staff, and asking questions on topics like transport, roads, recreation, sustainability and access to services.
👍🏻 Sharing information with peers around Council initiatives such as Youth Week activities.
👍🏻 Representing the Youth Council at Youth Forums and reporting back to Councillors in those settings.
👍🏻 Representing the Youth Council on initiatives such as the Future Council film screening and local events.
👍🏻 Providing insights into the importance of different Council services.
👍🏻 Showing up consistently and modelling what good community participation can look like.
