A small part of Alysa’s “Stateside” exhibition routine has suddenly been circulating everywhere across TikTok and social media. 👉This clip was FILMED BY ME ON MY PHONE in person at the Olympic Figure Skating Exhibition Gala at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, the celebration event where the world’s best Olympic figure skaters return to the ice after the competition to perform creative exhibition programs. At the time we were mostly focused on her jumps and spins, so this little moment in the routine honestly didn’t stand out to us at all. Two weeks later it turns out this is the part of the program that ended up going viral everywhere. ⛸️ The Olympic figure skating exhibition gala is always one of the most interesting events of the Games — after the pressure of competition, skaters get to experiment with music, choreography, and personality on the ice. Watching moments from the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics take on a life of their own online afterwards has been pretty surreal. Coaches, athletes, and experts believed this jump was so complex and risky that it existed only in theory. However, on September 14, 2022, 17-year-old skater Ilia Malinin made history by landing the first-ever quadruple Axel in an official competition, during the U.S. International Classic in Lake Placid, New York. The Axel is a unique jump because it begins with the skater facing the ice, requiring an additional half rotation in the air. In the case of the quadruple Axel, this translates to 4.5 full rotations, a far greater challenge than any other quadruple jump. In this competition, Malinin began his free skate with the Axel, executed the full rotation, maintained control upon landing, and earned a high base score with a positive execution evaluation, demonstrating the precision of the jump. This moment marked more than just an isolated achievement. It represented the overcoming of a belief that had persisted for decades and that many experts considered unshakeable. Malinin became the first person to complete the jump in competition, something that until then had been considered virtually impossible. In the following years, he continued to push the boundaries. In international championships, he has already performed routines with six quadruple jumps, including the Axel again, cementing his reputation as one of the greatest talents in the recent history of the sport. The crowd was international, the reaction unanimous. His skating didn’t just impress; it moved people. Power, musicality, control, emotion - every element landed. 👉This clip isn’t even from his individual performance, it’s from the gala finale, when all the skaters returned to the ice together. And somehow, even then, Ilia stood out throwing in two backflips and 2 quads just for fun, as if redefining what’s possible in Olympic figure skating comes naturally to him. ⛸️Throughout the night he did 4 backflips: one in his number, 1 in team USA’s number and 2 in the finale!!!!!🥇🥇🥇 Watching this in person, just hours ago, made one thing very clear: Ilia Malinin isn’t just pushing the sport technically, he’s shaping the future of men’s figure skating at the Winter Olympics.
