We are excited to announce that the 2024 #XmasLectures, supported by CGI, will be presented by Dr Chris van Tulleken and will be all about food and the human body’s relationship to it!
Chris is an associate professor UCL, a practicing infectious diseases doctor, a broadcaster, and author.
Together, we’ll tackle big questions like:
🌮 Where does our food come from?
👬 What happens when we see it, put in our mouths, and as it travels through our bodies?
💊 How it affects our health, supplies us with energy, and we build ourselves from it?
Tune in to BBC Four and iPlayer in late December to find out!
Tickets to attend the filming of the #XmasLectures will soon be available via a Wimbledon-style ballot open to Ri Members.

So far, Mirella Lapata has explored the history, reliability and creative potential of generative AI exploring how it works and some of the unexpected impacts it may have. Turing Ethics Fellow, Mhairi Aitken has demonstrated some of the risks around generative AI with glue and ant poison sandwiches and dodgy dating advice. Now, Michael Wooldridge will explore the future of Generative AI and its potential within society.
❓ Have we finally cracked AI? What are the most promising areas for innovation with generative AI? What doors could increasingly advanced generative models open when it comes to how we communicate, work, educate and do business?
This lecture is the last in this Autumn’s Turing Lectures series, "How AI Broke the Internet", which aims to provide comprehensive insight into the societal impact of generative AI.
