Small kine tutorial : ZIPPER TAPE! 🤐 . As a bag maker, using zipper tape opens up a whole new world! It comes in one long piece and a bunch of zipper pulls. You can make the zipper any size you want!📏 . Truth is adding zipper pulls to zipper tape is intimidating. I used to have my husband do it since I couldn't! 😮 . Now I'm a pro...... . Enjoy real life background audio as well my mock filming setup. 🤳Maybe I really need those meta glasses...or any other recs please send my way! #sewingtutorial #sewing #zipper

Zippers get such a bad reputation. The word alone is enough to make you pause mid-project and think, alright, zipper time—take a deep breath or a shot of tequila. Maybe you’ve had a zipper go in a little wonky even though you were sure you sewed straight. Maybe the zipper starts catching because the stitching crept a little too close to the teeth. Either way, that hesitation is real. Here’s one small thing that already helps: keep your zipper tabs out of the seam allowance and sew next to them, even if it means sewing a slightly smaller seam allowance. As long as you’re catching all the layers, letting the tabs stay popped out makes a huge difference in how finished your pouch looks. This is the kind of detail I teach in my in-person bagmaking classes — and it’s why I hear comments like, “I honestly think I could follow this pattern just fine even without the class.” I write my zipper patterns the same way — like I’m sitting next to you saying, “Yep, that’s what yours should look like,” with lots of detail and full-color photos at every step so you’re never guessing. I hear the same thing in reviews too: once those little details are explained, zippers stop feeling like such a big deal. If you’re ready to stop side-eyeing the zipper step and feel more comfortable sewing it, comment POUCH and I’ll send you the links to the zipper patterns I use to teach this — the same ones I share with my in-person students. If this found you at the right time, you’re exactly who I create for. Come along for the ride! #bagmaking #zippersewing #beginnerbagmaker #sewingconfidence #sewersofinstagram

If your bags keep coming out a little… floppy… we need to talk about interfacing. Before you start thinking you’re just “not good at bags,” let me let you in on something. A lot of the difference between a floppy bag and a structured one comes down to what’s happening inside the bag — the layers you build with interfacing. Three mistakes I see beginner bagmakers make all the time. First, skipping a woven fusible interfacing. This layer stabilizes your fabric so it behaves itself. Without it, your fabric is basically doing whatever it wants and your bag never really stands a chance. Second, not adding a medium weight fusible layer when structure is needed. Different brands call it different things — fusible fleece, thermolam, and similar products — but that second layer is what gives a bag body instead of that sad floppy situation. Third, thinking foam is the only way to get structure. Foam absolutely has its place in bagmaking, but a lot of sewists avoid it because it can feel bulky or intimidating. The good news is you can create beautiful structure in many bags just by layering a woven fusible with a medium weight fusible. Once you start understanding those layers, bags turn out completely different. The kind you set down on the table and they actually stand there like they mean it. If interfacing still feels like a guessing game, comment INTERFACING and I’ll send you my free guide that walks through the types I use and why. And if you’re a sewist who secretly dreams of making beautiful structured bags but keeps telling yourself “maybe someday”… go ahead and follow along. Around here we turn that thought into finished bags. #bagmaking #bagmakingtips #beginnerbagmaker #sewingconfidence #interfacing

If your zipper tabs disappear when you turn your pouch right side out, it’s usually because they’re getting trapped in the seam allowance. This is the quick adjustment I use every time—keeping the tabs out of the seam, even if it means wavering from the seam allowance slightly, as long as you’re still catching all the layers and not sewing off the pouch. One small change. A noticeably cleaner finish. I’ve had several people reach out this week to say their pouches have never looked this good until they started using this method from my zipper patterns—and that kind of feedback never gets old. Comment POUCH and I’ll send you a link to my zipper patterns (including the zipper confidence bundle) so you can keep practicing this technique. #bagmakingtips #zippertips #beginnerbagmaker #sewingpouches #sewingbags

I know I’m not the only one who’s struggled with cutting perfect corners for my bags. That’s why I created these new templates. Introducing our new 6-in-1 Boxed Corner and Curved Corner Rulers with rivet placement templates. These handy tools are already saving me so much time and frustration — especially cutting kits for upcoming workshops. If you’ve ever cut and interfaced all the pattern pieces for 25 bags in one day, you know what I mean! 😅 Not sure how to use them? I made a quick demo video that you can watch on YouTube and on the product pages for these templates. Also, you can save $5.99 when you purchase both rulers together. Just add them both to your cart, and the discount will apply automatically. #bagmaking #sewingnotions #acrylictemplates #madeinusa🇺🇸

Beginner-friendly steps for adding an adjustable strap slider (adjuster) to a purse or bag strap. These steps work for fabric, webbing, or interfaced straps. What You’ll Need Purse strap (finished or raw) Strap adjuster/slider (make sure it matches strap width) Sewing machine Thread Clips or pins Rivets and tool (optional) How to Attach a Strap Adjuster 1. Decide Strap Orientation. Lay the strap flat. Choose which end will be the adjustable side (usually the longer side). Make sure the right side of the strap is facing up. 2. Insert Strap Into the Adjuster (First Pass) Hold the adjuster so the center bar is facing up. Slide the strap up through the bottom opening, then over the center bar, and back down through the other opening. *The strap should now loop around the center bar. 3. Fold and Secure the Short End. Fold the short end of the strap back on itself 1–1½ inches. Clip or pin in place. Stitch across the folded end: Straight stitch or box stitch or reinforced X-box stitch (best for strength) 4. Thread the Long Strap End (Adjustment Side) Take the long end of the strap. Feed it up through the bottom of the adjuster over the center bar down through the top opening. This creates the sliding mechanism that allows adjustment. 5. Attach Strap to Bag Hardware. Thread the long end through a D-ring or rectangle ring on the purse. Fold the end under ½–1 inch. Stitch securely. (At this time add the rivets if you’re using them.) 6. Test the Adjustment. Pull the strap to shorten and lengthen. Make sure the strap slides smoothly, stiches are secure and strap lies flat (not twisted). #isew #handmadebynivri #nivrisews #pursemaking blackhistorymonth
