The day they made history of music 🥹🫶 ABBA's "Dancing Queen" emerged from a 1975 studio session at Glen Studios in Stockholm, initially titled "Boogaloo". Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus composed the melody, inspired by George McCrae's disco hit "Rock Your Baby" and the New Orleans rhythm of Dr. John's Gumbo album. The demo featured nonsense lyrics, but when Andersson played the backing track for Anni-Frid Lyngstad, she cried at its beauty, recognizing its potential . Lyrics were later co-written by Ulvaeus and manager Stig Anderson, who also renamed the song. The first half of the second verse ("Baby, baby, you’re out of sight...") was scrapped before release. Agnetha Fältskog and Lyngstad recorded vocals in September 1975, but final sessions continued until December due to promotional tours. Despite being completed in 1975, the song was held back until August 1976 to promote their Arrival album, which later topped charts in 15 countries.
