Force = mass x acceleration. With all other things remaining equal, increase force to accelerate faster. @kalenwalker13 is a great example of applying incredible amounts of force in a short period of time. Increases in mass (body weight) will slow you down unless you counteract the increase in mass with a greater increase in force. Having ample amounts of sprint and plyo work in your program is essential for speed improvements. Lift heavy to increase force production. Sprint, jump snd move things quickly so you can apply that force fast. #acceleration #sprinttraining #forceproduction #strengthandconditioning

When you watch someone accelerate, one of the first areas you look at is the foot strike position. When foot strike happens too far ahead of the center of mass, braking impulse goes up. More of that contact is spent slowing the body down instead of projecting it forward. A position can look aggressive and still create net braking. Another athlete can look less conventional and still do a much better job orienting force in the direction of travel. We don’t want to over-project, nor do we just want to tap on the ground real quickly. It’s a balance. We do also have to consider the constraints of each athlete and WHY they might move the way they do. You can’t coach acceleration by copying screenshots and shouting cues. You have to create the conditions and capacities that allow it to happen. That’s why I wrote Force & Expression. Not to give you more drills or more screenshots to copy, but to give you a better framework for thinking. Transfer. diagnosis. exercise selection. programming architecture. Understanding what qualities actually matter and how to connect them back to performance. If you want that framework, that’s Force & Expression. If you want that framework plus the practical programming side, that’s the Force & Speed bundle with Speed Kills. #speedtraining #acceleration #getfaster #sprints #sprinting

I ran 45.1 and 20.6 only a year after struggling to run 46mid and 21low. So a lot of people ask, HOW can I make those kinds of jumps. 1, 2 or even 3 seconds within a season. Here’s what actually made me explode out of the blocks: 1.I started using drills that actually transfer. Not just drills that look cool, but ones that force your body into the correct positions and teach you how to apply force. Heavy sled pushes and pulls were huge because they teach you to stay low and keep pushing instead of popping up. 3-4 Hurdle hops straight into an acceleration taught me how to combine stiffness, power, and projection in one movement. I also love doing a short drill sequence for about 10 meters and then immediately going into a few explosive pushes so the pattern carries over into real sprinting. Wall runs are underrated too. 2.stopped trying so hard. This sounds backwards, but tension is literally braking force. When you’re straining, clenching everything, forcing every step, your nervous system slows down and your movement gets stiff. You’re basically fighting yourself while trying to sprint. What helped me was thinking “push hard, stay loose.” The fastest accelerations I’ve had didn’t feel like chaos… they felt powerful and smooth at the same time. If it feels frantic, you’re probably wasting speed. 3.I learned to PUSH, not step. Acceleration is not about quick feet. It’s about producing force horizontally. Imagine pushing a heavy sled across the track or watching a plane take off. It doesn’t jump into the air instantly. It rolls, builds pressure, builds power, then suddenly it’s flying. If you try to “run fast” immediately, you pop upright, your foot lands too far in front, and now you’re braking instead of accelerating. Each step should feel like you’re driving the ground backward to send your body forward. Long powerful pushes, not little tapping steps. When this clicked for me, my entire first 30 meters changed, and suddenly my top speed improved too without even targeting it directly. #trackandfield #tracknation #sprinting #blockstarts #acceleration

Throw these in your next acceleration workout if you are struggling with projecting outwards. Trying new start variations can teach you how to actually PUSH and produce more horizontal force by creating a new challenge that your body has to overcome and adapt to. Acceleration isn’t just about speed. It’s about how your brain experiences change over time. In cars like the Audi R8, brutal 0–100 launches hit so fast that your brain can’t fully keep up. The rate of change is so sharp that it makes extreme performance feel smooth and almost easy. At higher speeds, that feeling changes. Air resistance rises fast and starts working against you. Every extra km/h needs a lot more power, so acceleration slows down and the experience feels more controlled, even though the car is still pushing its limits. What feels fast or slow isn’t fixed. It depends on how your brain processes rapid acceleration versus steady high speed under completely different physical forces. Like this content? This mental cue made my first step out of blocks way faster 🔥 Your mental cue directly affects your mechanics. If you're thinking the wrong thing, your body will execute it wrong. ❌ THE PROBLEM: THINKING "FOOT FORWARD" Most sprinters think about driving their foot forward out of the blocks. But when you focus on your foot, it naturally comes UP instead of forward. This creates: - Vertical force (going up, not forward) - Slower acceleration - Less power transfer - Higher body angle too early ✅ THE SOLUTION: THINK "KNEE FORWARD" Change one word in your mental cue and everything changes: 📋 HOW TO EXECUTE: 1. Push back HARD and FAST on the block 2. Drive your KNEE forward as far as you can 3. Not knee UP (that's the mistake) 4. Knee FORWARD (horizontal drive) 5. This keeps you low and creates maximum horizontal force 🔥 BONUS TIP: ADD HIP DRIVE - Push with your hips to extend explosively - Hip extension + knee forward = maximum horizontal power - This combination creates the most explosive first step possible 🎯 WHY THIS WORKS: Your brain follows what you focus on. When you think "foot," you focus on the end of the chain. When you think "knee," you focus on the powerful middle joint that drives everything forward. This creates better mechanics automatically. 🧠 MENTAL CUE MATTERS: Elite sprinters use the right mental cues to create perfect mechanics without overthinking. This is one of the most powerful cues for the first step out of blocks. Try this mental shift at your next session and feel the difference in your first step 💥 Comment KNEE if you're using this cue 👇 Save this and tag someone who needs a faster first step!
