ADHD paralysis happens when your brain freezes up in the face of tasks, decisions, or overwhelming situations. It can show up as: 🔶 Task Paralysis – Staring at your to-do list but feeling stuck. 🔶 Choice Paralysis – Too many options? Brain shuts down. 🔶 Mental Overwhelm – So much to do that doing anything feels impossible. 🔶 Perfectionism Paralysis – Waiting for the “perfect” time or way to start. Next time you feel stuck, try this: ✅ Start with a brain dump - write down all of those thoughts and 'to-do's' swirling around in your head. ✅ Try to identify what's a task versus what's actually a multi-step project. ✅ Choose one of the smallest tasks on the list. What's the smallest possible step you could take to just get started and gain momentum? ✅ Reach out to a friend or family member who might be able to provide support. Can they talk on the phone or FaceTime while you get started? ✅ Celebrate your success! No matter how small or trivial you think it is, give yourself credit for taking action! ADHD paralysis is NOT laziness!! It’s a real executive function challenge. With the right support, you can move from stuck to taking action! 💜 ADHD Coaching can help you build personalized strategies and address shame around ADHD paralysis. 👉 Schedule your free chat or DM me for more info on how I can help! #adhd #adhdparalysis #adhdhelp #adhdcoaching #adhdstruggle #adhdlife #adhdreel #coffee #lazy #shame #adhdoverwhelm #allentx #mckinneytx #dallastx #friscotx #planotx

Task paralysis isn’t laziness—it’s your ADHD brain stuck in neutral. Here are 3 science-backed tricks to break free: 1️⃣ The 5-minute rule – just start for 5 minutes 2️⃣ Break tasks into tiny micro-steps 3️⃣ Externalize the start – set a timer, or countdown like a diving board: 5…4…3…2…1…GO 🚀 Small shifts = big momentum. ➡️ Save this for the next time you’re stuck, and share it with a friend who gets it. 💬

Most people think ADHD task paralysis happens randomly… but a 2004 neuroscience study found something different: 🧠 ADHD brains switch into “task mode” when two signals appear at the same time: movement + a single clear target. That’s why you can scroll forever but freeze on important tasks. Because scrolling gives your brain both signals (constant micro-movement + one clear target). Most real-life tasks don’t. They’re vague, multi-step, and overwhelming (classic executive dysfunction). But here’s the part researchers found that changed everything: ⭐ The “10-Minute Activation Window” When you combine light body movement with ONE ultra-clear next step, the ADHD brain can shift from frozen → engaged fast. Try this: THE ACTIVATION PROTOCOL (works shockingly well for ADHDers) 1️⃣ Move for 30 seconds Shake your hands, pace, stretch — doesn’t matter. 2️⃣ Say the next step out loud Not the whole task. Just: “Open the laptop.” “Write the title.” “Put one plate in the sink.” 3️⃣ Start immediately Your brain locks on. The anxiety drops. The fog clears. Momentum takes over. It feels like someone finally flipped the “start switch” you’ve been missing your whole life. If you’re tired of waiting for motivation to magically appear… That’s exactly why I built The ADHD Playbook A full system built for ADHD task paralysis + executive dysfunction — so you can start without pressure, guilt, or willpower. 👉 Check my profile to grab your copy.

My original caption from TikTok 7/31/25 ❤️: This was super hard to do in the moment even though it looks easy. This is an older video, l still refer back to it, to remind myself that I CAN do hard things 😭 I have to use a lot of coping skills because it is a stress response, it is NOT about laziness. Im sure if you were watching me from the outside, it might have looked like I was relaxing out on my deck for 2 hours. But inside I was anything but relaxed, I was mentally beating myself to a pulp. The only way I truly felt better was when I finished the really daunting task IMPERFECTLY. It’s never going to be perfect, nothing is ever perfect. #procrastination #taskparalysis #overwelmed #MentalHealth #adhd #executivedysfunction

Ever feel completely stuck, like you want to get things done but your brain just won’t let you start? 🧠😓😵‍💫 That’s ADHD paralysis. It’s not laziness or lack of motivation. It’s when your brain gets so overwhelmed by everything, decisions, tasks, emotions, that it shuts down instead of moving forward. You might: ☀️Sit in one spot for hours, unable to start or make progress ☀️Avoid tasks because they feel too big, even if they’re small ☀️Feel exhausted just from thinking about what needs to get done ☀️Melt down over simple choices because everything feels impossible If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. It’s a real, exhausting experience that many with ADHD face daily. 🩵 The good news? Recognizing this is the first step toward being kinder to yourself and finding strategies that work, like breaking tasks into tiny steps, using calming tools, or allowing yourself to pause without guilt. 🌿 If ADHD paralysis feels familiar, you don’t have to navigate it alone. 🩵 I run an ADHD Recharge group coaching program where we explore practical tools and mindset shifts to help you break through overwhelm, build gentle routines, and reclaim your energy. ⚡️💚 If you want to learn more or join the next group, comment “recharge” and I can send you the link. Ever feel like your brain is stuck when you need to get started on something? That “frozen in place” feeling for people with ADHD isn’t laziness, it's ADHD paralysis (a part of Executive Dysfunction), and it can make everyday tasks feel overwhelming. 💚 First things first: you are not broken. You’re doing the best you can! Here are a few quick ways to support yourself in those moments: 1️⃣ Break the task down into the tiniest first step (even “stand up” counts). 2️⃣ Use external cues( timers, alarms, or even a song) as a gentle nudge. 3️⃣ Give yourself permission to start messy and imperfect. Action builds momentum. Remember: struggling with executive functioning doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means you’re a neurodivergent human, and your nervous system is asking for support. P.S. I created a Transition Toolkit mini course filled with strategies to make this process easier. Ever wanted so badly to start a simple task, but your brain just…won’t? That’s task paralysis — and for people with ADHD, it’s a daily battle. Not because we don’t care or aren’t capable, but because our brains process mundane, repetitive tasks differently. And when it takes us longer than others, it chips away at our confidence, making us feel lazy, uneducated, or broken. #adhd #adhdwomen #adhdlife #adhdproblems #taskparalysis #mentalhealthsupport #mindfulconversations #mentalhealthpodcast
