1) CHARGE for usage rights!!!! 💵 When I first started UGC I was so desperate to land any deal whatsoever, so would naively accept the first offer that came my way. Do NOT do this. When negotiating a deal with a brand / agency, always ask what usage rights they are seeking and make SURE to charge for it. The longer usage they want, the more money the brand can make from the video. Simples. 2) Be picky with what brands you work with. This may sound counterproductive if you’re a UGC newbie and want to get work under your belt, however, not every collaboration is a good collaboration. Authenticity is the selling point of a good UGC video. To create an authentic feeling with your content, you’ll need to actually LIKE the product / service you are filming for. Choose wisely 💯. 3) Retainer deals are your best friend. Securing a retainer deal with a brand is the BEST thing you can do. It not only guarantees regular income, but it allows you to establish a friendly, productive and professional relationship with a brand.
