RIIn Apr 2025, AWS just broke a 20-year rule wherein Amazon S3 can now be mounted as a file system. No gateway. No copies. Just standard file operations on your S3 bucket.
Edit via the file system → syncs to S3 ✅
Edit via S3 console → reflects in the file system ✅
(with a ~60 sec write buffer also S3 is always the source of truth)
ML training jobs, AI agents, and legacy file-based apps can now talk directly to S3 like it’s a local drive.
