The retina The retina is a highly specialized neurosensory layer of the eye that not only detects light but also performs the first level of visual processing before signals even reach the brain. Situated at the innermost layer of the eyeball, the retina receives focused light after it passes through the cornea and lens. Its outermost layer, the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), plays a crucial role in maintaining visual clarity by absorbing scattered light and preventing internal reflection. It also provides metabolic support to photoreceptors and ensures continuous renewal by removing cellular debris. Beneath the RPE lies the photoreceptor layer, composed of rods and cones, cells responsible for converting light into electrical impulses through phototransduction. Rods are highly sensitive and function primarily in dim light, while cones are essential for color vision and visual acuity in bright conditions. These electrical signals are then relayed to bipolar cells, which begin refining visual information such as contrast and intensity. The processed signals are further transmitted to ganglion cells, the only retinal neurons capable of generating true action potentials. Their axons converge to form the optic nerve, which carries visual information to the brain for final interpretation. Thus, the retina is not merely a passive receiver of light but an active neural processor, integrating and modulating visual input to ensure accurate perception of the surrounding world. . . . . . . . . . #Retina #Ophthalmology #EyeAnatomy #Neuroanatomy #VisualSystem #MedicalEducation #MBBSLife #NEETPGPrep #USMLE #UKMLE #Nursing #Pharmacy #OpticNerve #Phototransduction #RodsAndCones #AnatomyStudy #FutureDoctor #ClinicalLearning #MedicalNotes #VisionScience . . . . . . . . I get it, because I’ve been there myself. During undergrad, I spent hours studying… but my grades weren’t improving. I was memorizing just because, trying to force information into my brain, and honestly, I struggled to make meaningful connections between the material. Looking back, I believe that was my biggest mistake. It wasn’t until my master’s degree that I finally learned how to study anatomy properly — efficiently, strategically, and in a way that actually sticks. If you’ve been putting in hours but not seeing results, it’s not you — it’s your method. Comment ANATOMY to book a session with me and start mastering anatomy the right way. Follow @anatomywithjoyce for more tips to finally get anatomy to click. #premed #anatomystudy #medicalschool #studytips #futuredoctor

A few weeks ago, a student told me I should make #grwm videos because I’d “be a good influencer.” I rolled my eyes and then realized I actually do want to influence you. #musicians - I want to teach you how to play your instrument and sing with your whole body in a way that feels amazing! I want to teach you about the anatomy relevant to your art so you remove the barriers to fully expressing yourself. Making music- expressing ourselves, sharing with others, and committing to our craft should make us feel alive. So no, I won’t sell you a whole bunch of random products. I probably won’t put my makeup on for you to watch (you’d be horrified). I’m not going to make pretty reels about what I eat in a day….i don’t think. But I will influence how you even think about making sound. So follow and share so you can learn the things they’re definitely not teaching you in music school (ask me how I know 😉) #musiceducator #musicteachers #anatomystudy
