ASThis is kind of crazy but one of the things I get the most push back on these days is when I tell people that my family started keeping a Saturday Sabbath and taking it seriously (in the best way). For some reason many just have a hard time with that or feel judged when I share what I am feeling called to personally.
I started reading the Bible in chronological order in January and it stood out to me how often God says to keep the Sabbath set apart and that that is a permanent commandment.
If we have no issue with the other 9 of the 10 Commandments then why such a hard time with the idea of taking a true day off work once a week?
A few months ago we started having Friday family dinner to start the Sabbath and then from then until Saturday night we try to do no cleaning, no paid work, no work on the house… We do something purposeful together as a family and then the rest of the day we rest or play or read or what not. If the boys have ball games we go to them but we just try to keep the day light.
It has been unexpectedly life changing. The most surprising thing has been how much closer my family has become. I’ve got a house hold of teenagers and all of the sudden, because I think we are coming together for a purpose greater than just “mom said so” the kids are all in and we are closer as a family in a new way.
Just sharing my experience- no judgement if this isn’t something you feel lead to do (and btw- there are no rules, we are just figuring it out as we go).
For our family time two Saturdays ago we went to the escape room @exit4anderson and chose the Star Wars-esque room. I’m not going to lie, at the beginning I was afraid we wouldn’t make it out in time, but my crew worked together and crushed it.
If you’re looking for a great family day (or date) place I highly recommend Exit 4 in Anderson, Sc. Not only was the experience great but the location is awesome - right on the Main Street of downtown Anderson with lots of restaurants and ice cream shops steps away.
