There’s something called tutorial hell — it’s when creatives passionately want to level up and make great work, but get too afraid to actually create. So instead of shipping projects, they do the next-best thing: binge tutorials and courses. Don’t get me wrong — tutorials are great for learning new techniques — but the fastest way to level up is to DO! Projects lock that knowledge into place and build the neural pathways that connect technique to creative application. That’s why nothing beats project-based learning. For some people, this is a walk in the park. For others it’s much harder. Yes, you’ve learned new skills — but applying them to build something original can feel overwhelming. The good news is: you don’t have to start with something brand-new. One trick that’s helped me a lot is recreating work I admire — without following a tutorial. It forces you to plan your approach, structure your process, and solve problems on your own. You won’t be inventing from scratch, but you’ll gain confidence using the skills you’ve learned and get much closer to creating original work. That’s what I did with this “Snooker Guy” rough animation. The original was by Arthur C. Duarte — forgive me if I spelled it wrong. 😅 I saw the piece, loved it, and decided to recreate it.
