When you’ve made your dream spring blouse😍 Consistently sewing or having some kind of creative outlet at least 2x a week has been a top goal of mine this year. I love fashion and details/textures that make pieces special but I also want to add my own ideas and subtleties to them too. I was starting to find I would buy something because I liked the idea of it but didn’t love everything about it. With sewing, I can truly control every design detail from a ruffles ruffliness to the arm holes tightness to even the exact color or pattern I prefer. When I saw this fabric I immediately wanted to make a dress with it, but after seeing this style of blouse pop up in my Pinterest and instagram feed I decided to nix that idea and make this instead! This is the Anthea blouse using Anna Allen’s hack found on her website. I made a size 6 which was a mistake because it is rather boxy for me. I will definitely size down one or two sizes next time and make the ruffle collar I little wider, but overall I LOVE it! When I look at it, I feel like I’m breathing in spring and it makes me happy knowing I made this! There are far better sewists than I, but if you would like any info on how I made adjustments just message me and I’d love to try to help! signed a sahm 🤍

Wore this #AntheaBlouse hack again earlier this week for a trip into the office for a meeting that turned out to be on a different day 🥲 I have a few more planned, including one for a friend, so these notes are as much a reminder for me as anything else but I hope they’re helpful! I know that riffing on the iconic Ganni tie top is everywhere right now, but most of the tutorials I’ve seen are for working from a thrifted button down so I figured it was worth putting out there in the hope that it’s helpful for someone! I think you could follow these basic steps with pretty much any puff sleeve button up. Side note- one of the curses of thrifting fabric is that I don’t know how to source more- I’ve been looking for more yardage of this for an entire year at this point, and I think I just have to accept that I’m outta luck. TL;DR This blouse was supposed to be something else first, but this is where we’ve landed and she’s a cutie 🤎 Ok, let’s talk about the absolute drama of making this top. I love this brown micro gingham from @heysewsister.co.uk and wanted to dupe the Damson Madder Lola Blouse (balloon sleeves, ruffle collar, button placket). I used a pattern from my stash that was rereleased and the designer was reluctant to provide me with updated files without me repurchasing (interested in everyone’s thoughts on that), but jokes on me because even with the improved files, I hated the drafting. The armscye created a weird puckering situation through the underarm seam and I don’t think the weight of the fabric worked with how huge the blouse turned out. So, after much heartache/tears/anxiety I moved on to plan b. It was tricky to find a pattern they could fit within the already cut pieces, but I ended up my using my hacked Anthea blouse bodice and raised the neckline. Then I added the notches from the Amelie blouse around the neckline for gathering and used the flounce and collar pieces to finish the blouse. I honestly thought I would end up hating it because of all I went through to make it, but I wore it on Mother’s Day and I really love how it turned out. #antheablouse #antheablousehack #amelieblousepattern #memademay #memademay2025 #modernsewist #millenialsewing #sewistootd

I wanted to focus on consuming less and making more in 2025 and I’m really pleased with my progress so far. This dress is getting so much wear now and it’s much more useful than the blouse that I left languishing in my wardrobe! There is a slight discrepancy in the skirt fabric colour and blouse as the fabric is a natural linen colour. But tbh I would rather that and have a dress I actually wear then to have left the blouse sitting about!
