The Apollo 1 explosion was a stark reminder of the dangers inherent in space exploration. On January 27, 1967, a tragic cabin fire during a routine pre-launch test claimed the lives of astronauts Virgil Grissom, Edward White, and Roger B. Chaffee. This devastating incident underscored the critical need for rigorous safety measures, leading to significant changes that shaped the future of space travel. #nasa #apollo1 #fyp #edukasi #ditzedukasi

January 27, 1967 - Three astronauts were sitting in a capsule on the launch pad, running a routine test. They never came home. Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee were America's best. Grissom was a Mercury veteran who had flown twice before. White was the first American to walk in space. Chaffee was the youngest NASA astronaut, selected for his brilliance. Together, they were the crew of Apollo 1 - the mission that was going to take America to the moon. The test that evening was a simple simulation - no fuel loaded, no actual launch. Just the crew running through procedures in the sealed capsule while technicians monitored from outside. It was supposed to be low-risk. But NASA was under immense pressure to beat the Soviets to the moon, and corners had been cut. The interior of the capsule was filled with pure oxygen at high pressure - an atmosphere that makes almost everything flammable. At 6:31 pm, a spark from a frayed wire near Grissom's feet ignited the atmosphere. In pure oxygen, the fire was instantaneous and total. The temperature inside the capsule reached 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit. The hatch - which opened inward and required 90 seconds to open under ideal conditions - could not be opened against the pressure. Ground technicians fought to reach the crew but were driven back by the heat. It was over in 17 seconds. All three were gone. The tragedy stopped the moon program for 21 months. Every system was redesigned. The lessons learned from Apollo 1 are the reason Apollo 11 succeeded - and the reason Neil Armstrong came home alive. #Apollo1 #NASAHistory #SpaceExploration #GusGrissom #EdWhite #WorldHistory #HistoryReels #HistoricalMoments #SpaceHistory #EpicHistory Follow @justaskbud for daily history videos 📚

Penjelasan 👇🏼 Insiden Apollo 1 terjadi saat latihan peluncuran di Launch Complex 34, Kennedy Space Center, Florida. Kapsul Apollo sedang menjalani tes "pluedown" (simulasi peluncuran tanpa benar-benar meluncurkan roket) ketika kebakaran terjadi. #NASA #foryoupage #apollo1

Apollo 15 was the fourth crewed mission to land on the Moon (July 26–August 7, 1971) and the first to use the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV), allowing for extended exploration of the Hadley-Apennine region. The crew—David Scott, James Irwin, and Alfred Worden—focused heavily on science, collecting significant lunar samples and deploying experiments, including the famous hammer and feather drop to demonstrate gravity. The mission was a major success, marking a shift from simply landing to in-depth lunar science. Credit: Apollo Flight Journal / Moonpans
