The new structure places greater emphasis on sustained communication, academic speaking, and research-based performance. Students will now complete the Free Response section FIRST, including a project presentation, project questions, and an argumentative essay. These tasks are 50% of the test! There are also fewer multiple-choice questions, with a more balanced assessment of listening and reading skills. . Even though the cultural comparison will no longer appear as a standalone task in the new AP Spanish exam format, we are still practicing it. Why? Because THIS year it is still part of the exam! 🤓 … and more importantly, the skills developed through cultural comparison will continue to live inside the new research-based project. Students must still learn to: 1. Interpret cultural perspectives 2. Compare practices and products 3. Speak academically with evidence Teaching how to organice the cultural comparison task isn’t about holding on to “old tasks.” It’s about building communicative skills that will transfer directly into the new project format for 2026–2027. This is how I prepare students for both the present exam and the future of AP Spanish. Save this if you are navigating the transition. . AP SPANISH Teachers, this is IMPORTANT. College Board has confirmed that we will receive a new practice exam for each course, including A SAMPLE COURSE PROJECT, in Summer 2026 for the revised AP World Language courses. This is NOT the actual student project … it is practice material designed to help US understand the new format and expectations. The REAL project prompt and source packet will be released in January of the exam year through AP Digital Portfolio, and students will only have until April 30 to submit their Personalized Project Reference. This means we must begin preparing students from the start of the school year!! Scaffolding research, cultural analysis, and presentational speaking skills can no longer wait. Please don’t rely on rumors or don’t take unnecessary trainings that are not from CB. Go directly to the official College Board updates and read the details carefully. 🤓 We need clarity. . AP Spanish teachers — quick reminder! Please check the March 2nd email from College Board. It’s very important that you log into your AP account and complete the 2026–2027 AP Course Audit form! After you complete the audit form, you will also need to either: • Adopt one of the syllabus provided by College Board, or • Submit your own syllabus for approval. Once you submit it, your AP administrator (usually the person in charge of AP courses at your school) will receive a notification to review and approve it. After your administrator approves it, College Board will process the request, and you will receive a confirmation message stating that: “Your AP Spanish Language and Culture course has been authorized for the 2026–2027 school year.” It took me 10-15 minutes to complete, upload, get approved and get my authorization letter from CB! Make sure you complete this step so your course is officially approved. ♥️ Save, share this reel with another AP SPANISH teacher so no one misses the Course Audit for 26-27 school year! ♥️ Let me know if you have questions — La Profe Baltazar

As you’re spending 90% of class time in the target language , going slowly, pointing to those visual supports, they won’t have a chance to feel like they don’t know what’s happening. . This week (during my spring break) I am having the opportunity to observe students presenting the AP Spanish Language pilot project that many of us have been hearing about. It was a valuable experience that helped me better understand the level of preparation this new format will require. I was able to listen to real final presentations and see a structured reference sheet students used as a guide (that maybe will change in the future for us). One important observation is that I did not see additional instructions or external resources being used. All the information was grounded in what students had prepared since January 2026 and current teacher interpretations of the Course and Exam Description (CED). After observing the process, three key instructional priorities became clear to me: 1. Students must learn to read and analyze authentic informational texts efficiently. 2. Students need to UNDERSTAND how to explain the 3 Ps (Product, Practice, Perspective) in an academic presentation. 3. Students need to engage in consistent research, memorization, and structured practice, since they will only have three minutes and a student-created reference guide. My biggest takeaway is … ♥️ Our most important step right now is to carefully read, analyze, and deeply understand the CED. ♥️ Official sample resources are expected in July 2026, with operational materials closer to January 2027. During the five years I taught AP Spanish, all my students passed except one. You can have the same success WITHOUT all the crushing work. Yes, it was a ton of work. If you use Angie Torre's lesson plans and curriculum, all you have to do is follow the step-by-step lesson plans. They do everything for you! You even have a ready-made syllabus you can submit to the College Board! Well, the lessons do everything for you except correct the essays. Unfortunately, there's no way to escape that task. UGH! Do you want to stay late creating lesson plans AND correcting? Why would you? These lessons are proven. I have curriculum for both Triángulo aprobado and Vista Higher Learning, second edition.
