DAPlant arborvitae the right way 🌲
Most arborvitae failures start the day they’re planted. Here are two things that make the biggest difference:
1️⃣ Score the root ball
Nursery-grown arborvitae often have circling roots from being in containers. Take a knife or shovel and make 3–4 vertical cuts down the sides of the root ball. This breaks the circling pattern and encourages roots to grow out into the soil instead of strangling themselves.
2️⃣ Water like you mean it
Newly planted arborvitae need deep watering, not just a quick sprinkle. Soak the root zone so water reaches the entire root ball, especially the first growing season. Most winter losses happen because plants went into winter too dry.
Plant them right and they’ll give you years of privacy and evergreen color.
🌲 Pro tip: Mulch around the base to hold moisture, but keep it off the trunk
