What being “argumentative” at work actually says about you… This is the reason some people can push back without being labeled difficult: There’s a sociology concept from the works of Pierre Bourdeiu and Karl Marx called “social reproduction,” which describes how families pass down different kinds of capital, not just financial, but also cultural and social capital, through through habits of thinking, speaking, and handling conflict.  Social reproduction is how emotional patterns, communication styles, and comfort with disagreement get installed in you early, like an operating system that you never chose to download. Some families train this through debate. Take for example, the Kennedys. They were famous for intense dinner table discussions where ideas were challenged, and disagreement was normal. In that kind of environment, You learn that conflict is part of connection, not a threat to it. Now imagine a different family culture, where questioning adults is seen as talking back, and keeping the peace is more important than expressing a differing view. You learn that disagreement risks rejection, so you avoid it. These engrained patterns shape everything The roles you later feel comfortable stepping into. Whether you speak up in meetings. Whether you negotiate your salary.  Whether conflict energizes you or makes you want to disappear. They influence how much social and professional power feels available to you. Social intelligence is not just knowing how to disagree politely. It’s recognizing how your inherited patterns may be helping you or limiting you in the rooms you move through now… and decide which ones still serve you.  #habitus #businessetiquette #socialintelligence #boundaries #kennedys

People with over-focused #ADHD tend to get “stuck” in negative thought patterns and behaviors. In addition, they can be argumentative or oppositional. And they may have outbursts when things don’t go a certain way. In some cases, this form of the neuropsychiatric disorder has been mistaken for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). A pivotal difference between the two conditions is impulsivity. People with OCD typically aren’t impulsive, whereas those with over-focused ADD/ADHD tend to make more impulsive decisions. One way to treat this type is to increase the dopamine and serotonin levels in the brain. The best way to boost both is with exercise. Exercise can help to distract from obsessive thoughts, provide relaxation for open-mindedness, and boost blood flow to the brain. Focus on complex carbohydrates. An optimal diet for people with ADHD who tend to over-focus should include complex carbs like sweet potatoes, as well as small amounts of high-quality proteins. Too much protein in these individuals can exacerbate the tendency to hyperfocus. This type of ADD seems likely due to low levels of both serotonin and dopamine. Because of this, it’s a good idea to take nutritional supplements that boost these important neurotransmitters. A combination of St. John’s Wort and L-tyrosine can be very helpful. L-tryptophan and 5-HTP, which are serotonin building blocks, are other nutraceuticals that may increase serotonin in the brain.

People with Schizophrenia may see hallucinations that argue with them because their minds are constantly processing a mix of thoughts and perceptions that can become jumbled and distorted. These argumentative hallucinations could be a way for the brain to try to make sense of the chaos, but unfortunately, it can lead to conflict and confusion for the individual. Hi, I’m Michelle and I’ve been diagnosed with schizophrenia. I use a security camera in my apartment to record my episodes of psychosis, showing that they are completely non-violent. The footage captures me sitting on my couch, talking to myself, making odd expressions, but ultimately not causing harm or danger to anyone. - Michelle Hammer #mentalhealth #schizophrenia #schizophreniasupport #mentalhealthadvocate #schizoaffective #schizophreniaawareness #psychosisawareness #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #depressionawareness #schizophreniaadvocate #nyc #anxiety #michellehammer #livingwithschizophrenia #schizophreniaeducation #neurodivergent #schizophrenicnyc #chronicillness
