💡 The Ultimate Light & Shadow Cheat Sheet 👤✨ @watercolor_arezoo If you struggle with knowing where to put shadows on a face, this chart is for you! 🎨 I created this reference to show exactly how the position of the Light Source (marked by the yellow dots) changes the entire structure of the portrait. 👇 Here is the Breakdown: 1️⃣ Top Lighting (Common): Shadows fall under the nose, chin, and brow bone. This is standard natural lighting. 2️⃣ Side Lighting (Dramatic): Splits the face in half with a strong shadow line. Great for moody pieces! 3️⃣ Bottom Lighting (Unnatural): Shadows go up (above the nose and brows). This creates a spooky or mysterious look. 🎨 The Golden Rule: Always identify your light source FIRST. Your shadows will always fall on the opposite side. I’m not sure if that’s a real survival strategy, though. Sometimes you really do have to make your own reference. I knew I wanted to draw a chubby puffin but I had fun playing around in the liquify tool on some photos before jumping in. It gave me inspiration for how the body and head could work and inspired this drawing. Maybe you can try liquifying your references before drawing and see what you come up with… the chunkier, the better! #arttips #cutebirdart #puffin #cuteart #artreference
