There are times you need to draw a boundary in class. Here is when: 1️⃣ When the touch feels “off”: See, there is a difference between a correction and an intrusion. Many times you can instinctively feel it. Even if you end up being wrong, always err on the side of caution. A competent yoga teacher doesn’t need to touch you to fix you; they can use verbal cues to get the alignment right. 2️⃣ When they say “PUSH” a lot: I used to use this word too, but I’ve come to realize it is low intelligent behaviour lol. The same result can be accomplished with creativity without jarring the nervous system. Instead of “Push harder,” a good teacher says: “See if your body allows you to hold for 3 more breaths.” 3️⃣ When they force you to “catch up”: Ufff. What can I say? Even in a led class, there must be room for people to go slow. Even an advanced practitioner needs the space to slow down. Have you guys ever wondered why your gym trainer or your Yoga instructor always focus on alignment by telling us to do same number of repetitions with same intensity from both side of your body? Here's the answer to this question.. First reason is to maintain that holistic and structural alignment of your physical body and second is Body alignment prevents injuries and balances how your muscle groups work. Also, when you are in alignment, you use less energy for any movement and put less stress on the joints.
