Here’s what to say, and how to make a great impression 👇 As a former D1 coach who’s made hundreds of these calls, there’s nothing worse than losing momentum because a player isn’t ready. Here’s what to expect (and how to prepare): 🎯 What they’ll ask you: 1️⃣ “How’s your season going?” → Start with the team, then your best stats. 2️⃣ “How are your grades?” → Know your GPA — keep them strong. 3️⃣ “Have you thought about a major?” → Show you’ve done your homework (“I’m thinking business, communication, or finance”). 🎯 What YOU should ask them: 1️⃣ “What’s a day in the life like for your players?” 2️⃣ “What are you looking for at my position?” 3️⃣ “How does your program focus on player development — athletically, in the weight room, and academically?” These are the conversations that separate serious recruits from everyone else. Common question I get - what should kids be doing to help themselves improve athletically? This is some of the stuff she’s been doing over the last couple months with me (8 years old). Main areas I Focus on: Coordination, Control, Rhythm, sprinting (speed work), appropriate plyometrics & jump work, being bouncy, appropriate “strength” work, moving through full ranges of motion and developing “strength” in those ranges. I’ve got a 9-10 year old program available that can be done at home 2x a week, that progresses in difficulty every month, and has been used with real life kids I train, in-person and online. HOW TO GET TONED . If I am being honest here, the word “toned” is not a term I have used too much until many of my online coaching clients were using it. So let’s start off by agreeing what “toned” really means. “Toned” means visible lean curvy muscle definition and little to no stubborn body fat. - I get messages every single day from people who want to know how to get more lean, and more defined. We could really over complicate this, but let’s keep it simple, shall we? - You need to move athletically and build muscle to be and look “toned”. So let’s get out there and put our bodies in motion and lift some heavy weight in different rep ranges. Focus on getting strong. Really strong. Heavy is a relative term - what is heavy to you may not be heavy to another. Find YOUR heavy and go! - 🐅You will want to keep your calories in check and make sure you get enough protein. And please please don’t avoid carbs. You want to build some muscle? You gotta have carbs. Plus, carbs = life - 🐵Consistency is probably the most important part of the equation, and it’s the thing I see that is missing most often. - For some reason the expectation of perfection still looms out there. Screw perfection - consistency is what will win out - every single time. - ➡️What not to do to get toned? - ❌Endless hours of cardio. Hey, if you love cardio, then by all means, do some. Just don’t have cardio become your main focus. Cardio by itself or in lieu of strength training won’t get you the toned muscles you are looking for - ❌Stop doing a ga-zillion crunches every night thinking you will “get abs”. Hit your nutrition and your strength training hard - That’s how you get abs - ❌Stop severely restricting foods or food groups. Eat a healthy diet that includes protein, carbs and fats. All of ‘em. Overall calories and protein rule the roost, but don’t leave the others out. Life is too short to be so restrictive - ➡️Time to get toned y’all 💪🏻💪🏻 . . 👋🏼 Thanks for reading!
