Your baby isn't waking up to test you. They're waking up because their brain genuinely cannot tell if you've been gone for 10 seconds or 10 hours — and without that reassurance, their body sounds the alarm. 🚨 Every time you show up, you're not just soothing a cry. You're teaching their nervous system: the world is safe. I am not alone. That lesson? It follows them for life. 💛 #TinyHumansBigWisdom #GentleParenting #NightWaking #BabyScience #AttachmentParenting NervousSystemDevelopment SecureAttachment ParentingTips InfantDevelopment RespectfulParenting MomLife NewMom BabyBrain ScienceOfParenting YoureDoingGreat

Follow @modernparentsguide for more insights on raising confident, emotionally secure kids. Parenting is stressful. Not because you’re failing. But because the job itself is demanding. You are raising a developing nervous system while managing your own. Often on very little sleep. Often without enough support. Sleep deprivation changes the brain. Chronic stress narrows patience. Emotional overload makes even small moments feel hard. None of this means you’re doing it wrong. It means the system you’re parenting inside of is intense. This is why supporting the parent’s nervous system matters just as much as supporting the child’s. 🎧 Erika Komisar on The Diary of a CEO If parenting feels overwhelming right now, you don’t need more discipline strategies. You need regulation, clarity, and tools that work with the brain. This is not medical advice. Please seek professional support if needed. #modernparentsguide #parentstress #parentburnout #nervoussystemregulation #neuroscienceparenting #attachmentparenting #emotionallysecurekids #sleepdeprivedparents #consciousparenting #gentleparenting #parentingrealities #mentalhealthmatters #raisinghumans

When babies are close to us, their brains don’t just rest. They regulate. Heart rate slows. Stress hormones drop. Neural connections strengthen. This doesn’t stop at bedtime. Nighttime closeness matters too. Children who co-sleep until around age three spend up to 13,000 more hours in physical closeness during the most sensitive years of brain development. That’s not “dependency.” That’s input. Safety. Co-regulation. A nervous system learning the world is predictable. And no, this isn’t a rule. Or a must. Or something every family has to do. It’s simply understanding why so many babies sleep better when they’re not alone. And why independence grows best when safety comes first. 👀 If you’re curious how closeness, regulation, and sleep work together without pressure or one-size-fits-all advice, comment “GENTLE” and I’ll send you my 7 Days to Calm Nights foundation (0-6 Months) built around biology, nervous systems, and connection 🥰 #babysleep #cosleeping #attachmentparenting #nervoussystem #biologicallynormal gentlesleep parentingwithoutfear babybrain fourthtrimester

That sound. The shaking breath. The hiccuping cry after the tears stop. This is often called “self-soothing.” But babies don’t self-soothe the way adults do. They co-regulate. Through touch. Voice. Smell. Presence. When a baby cries themselves to sleep, they’re not learning how to calm down. They’re learning how to stop signaling. And it breaks my heart that over 60% of parenting advice still normalizes crying to sleep. Not because parents are cruel. But because so many are exhausted, desperate, and told this is “normal” or “necessary.” If watching this made something in your body tighten, if your instinct whispered this doesn’t feel right, you’re not weak. You’re not overreacting. Your nervous system recognizes another nervous system in distress. This is why I don’t teach cry-it-out. I focus on building calm sleep through safety, regulation, and connection instead. If this resonates and you’re looking for a gentle, baby-first way to support calmer nights without cry-it-out, comment “GENTLE” and I’ll send you more information 🤍 Share this. Baby’s king of the castle tonight. usually he’s on his floor bed while dad does the overnight shift with him. usually the toddlers are the ones finding their way into ours. that’s just how we divide and conquer around here. but last night he got upgraded. and I watched him settle in between us and it reminded me of his newborn days. makes me excited for some plans we have for more upgrades around here 👀 I get asked a lot how we transition a cosleeping toddler when the new baby comes. here’s honestly how it went for us. with my second and third, I coslept from newborn until around 8 to 10 months, once they got more mobile. from there they moved to a floor bed, full sized, fully enclosed. still close. still safe. just their own space. then when we needed to create more room, whether that was before a new baby or when I was ready to wean overnight, we brought dad in. first for bedtime. then gradually overnight. it wasn’t a hard stop, it was a slow hand off. and it worked because it was gentle. because there was always another safe person. because proximity never actually went away. that’s the whole philosophy. connection doesn’t have to disappear for transitions to happen. it just shifts. Welcome to the cozy corner of the internet. Get comfy and follow @the3ammama to never feel alone, especially not at 3am. PS. There are moments I look at my child and feel a bittersweet ache: I’m raising you with all the love in my heart — just so you can one day walk your own path. And while I know that’s the goal, it still breaks my heart sometimes. You are my everything. And yet, I’m learning to let go. Gently. Lovingly. Follow @modernmindfulparent for more real + honest parenting truths 🌱 Here’s the uncomfortable truth most parenting advice skips: Kids aren’t struggling because parents are “too soft” or “not strict enough.” They’re struggling because we’ve replaced connection with control, schedules, and performance. One in five children will develop a serious mental health challenge anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioral issues. That’s not random. And it’s not bad kids or bad parents. It’s a system that ignores how children actually develop emotionally. Research backed voices like psychoanalyst Erika Komisar keep saying the same thing: young children don’t need more pressure, independence, or early achievement. They need secure attachment, emotional presence, and regulated adults. When kids don’t feel emotionally safe, their nervous systems stay on high alert. And that stress shows up as “behavior problems.” Actionable takeaway: Before correcting behavior today, pause and connect. Get low. Listen. Regulate yourself first. Safety before solutions always. If this made you uncomfortable, that might be the point. Share this with a parent who needs to hear this 💭 #gentleparenting #parentingtruths #childmentalhealth #attachmentparenting #modernparenting
