Autism Support Group Launch••• Exciting announcement!! I am offering support groups for members of the autistic community (18+), that means autistic adults/friend’s and family of autistic adults. You don’t have to be autistic to join! I am so excited to be doing this because I know when I was first diagnosed I wanted a resource or group to join where I could talk to other people who might understand what I was going through. I really could not find anything and of the one or two resources I did come across, they were through insurance and extremely expensive, so I could not afford it. I want these groups to serve as a resource for autistic community members who are navigating life and hoping to connect with other autistics for support, inclusivity, growth and awareness—to get more in touch and connected to other autistics, and also to yourself. I am trained in group facilitation, and I am not a therapist so this is not therapy! If you are looking for therapy this will not serve that purpose. This is a support group to connect and learn with each other. We will talk about all different topics, like autism and friendships, romantic relationships, navigating work as an autistic person etc. No one is pressured to share and privacy is of utmost importance. These groups are all online so you must have your video on so that people feel safe and comfortable knowing who is behind the screen. Share this with any autistic community member who has been looking for support 🫶🏻 For more details please visit my site www.autisticthrifter.org, it is also linked in my bio. Please email me with any questions at ashra@autisticthrifter.org I hope to see you in group 🩵 #autism #autismawareness #autismacceptance #autismo #autismlove #autismsupport #autismspectrum #autismlife #fyp #autistic #autisticadults #autisticwomen #autisticadult #autisticpride #actuallyautistic #neurodivergent #neurodiversity #neurodiverse

Supporting an autistic friend isn’t about fixing, explaining, or pushing them past their limits. It’s about believing what they tell you, respecting how their nervous system works, and staying curious instead of defensive. A lot of harm happens when overwhelm is minimized, taken personally, or framed as something to “work through.”
Support often looks quieter than people expect. If you’re not sure what helps, ask. Clear, direct, consent-based support builds safety and trust far more than assumptions. Save this if you want to show up better for the autistic people in your life, or share it with someone who cares but might not know how. • #autismawareness #autismsupport #womenwithautism #autisminwomen #audhd

If you’ve been diagnosed with ADHD…and still feel like something’s not quite clicking— you’re not alone. And you’re not broken. April is Autism Acceptance Month, and I want to talk about something we don’t talk about enough in ADHD spaces: 👉 the overlap between ADHD and autism. Research shows that 20–50% of people diagnosed with ADHD also meet criteria for autism. And up to 80% of Autistic people have ADHD traits too. This isn’t a rare intersection—it’s just underrecognized. Especially in women, people of color, and folx socialized to mask. When someone is both—what we often call AuDHD—it can come with real internal contradictions: - Craving novelty and needing routine - Seeking stimulation and being overwhelmed by it - Loving socializing with people and needing recovery time after because it’s exhausting - Wanting structure and struggling to build it That kind of inner push-pull? It’s not a character flaw. It’s a common pattern in AuDHD folx. Autism is not a disorder. It’s not a disease. It’s a neurodevelopmental difference—just like ADHD. So this month, as you scroll through #autismawareness posts, be mindful. Avoid the puzzle pieces. The “light it up blue.” The deficit-based language. There’s no missing piece in autistic people. They don’t need fixing. They need understanding, support, and affirmation. I’ve tagged some of my favorite autistic/AuDHD accounts below, many of whom have become dear friends of mine. Please learn from them, listen to them, follow them, and share their work. @neuronandrosepsych @patrick.casale @autisticworldofalexmac @neurodivergenttherapist @divergentconversations @divergentpathways @neurodivergent_insights @neurodivergent_lou And if this post hits something tender for you—curiosity, grief, relief—you’re not alone there either. ❤️ If you feel safe to do so, comment below and share if this post resonates with you, or if you have more questions about the overlap between ADHD and Autism. I’m always here to provide support and resources. #AutismAcceptanceMonth #AutismAwarenessMonth #ADHDandAutism #AuDHD #Neurodivergent #LateDiagnosedADHD #NeurodiversityAffirming #CelebrateNeurodiversity #ADHDCoach

Living with AuDHD isn’t disorganization or chaos, it’s constant translation. Of sensory input. Of emotional tone. Of timing, expectations, and safety. What looks like shutdown is often overload. What looks like rigidity is recalibration. What looks like “not trying” is effort happening beneath the surface. This reel names the invisible work AuDHD nervous systems do every day, and the cost of being misunderstood. Not for sympathy. For accuracy. Understanding AuDHD changes how we speak to ourselves, how we interpret behavior, and how we show up in relationships. Curiosity creates safety. Judgment creates harm. This isn’t an excuse. It’s an explanation, with dignity.

Autistic meltdowns and shutdowns, two stress responses that come from the same place but look completely different from the outside. Meltdowns tend to get more attention because they are visible. Shutdowns are just as significant but much easier to miss, which means they often go unrecognized and unsupported, sometimes even by the person experiencing them. What I find most important to understand is that both are nervous system responses to overwhelm, not behavioral choices or overreactions. The difference is in how the overwhelm gets expressed, outward or inward. ✨Follow for more content on autism and AuDHD in women.✨ • #AutisticWomen #AutisticMeltdown #AutisticShutdown #AuDHD #NeurodivergentWomen

⚠️AuDHD people NEED to know this!⚠️ One of the fascinating things about AuDHD is how ADHD and Autism have some directly opposing traits that can balance each other out in some cases. However, that also introduces another factor when using ADHD medication. Because medications reduce the prominence of ADHD traits, Autism traits can seem more prominent than before. Some people don't mind the change at all, while others find it jarring or difficult to manage. It's up to you to determine what feels best for you when optimizing your dose with your doctor. For those of us with AuDHD, have you noticed Autistic traits feeling more present when you're on meds? What does that look like for you? #adhdawareness #adultadhd #adhdparenting #adhdtools #adhdresources #AuDHD

honestly have never been thriving more as an audhd person than being a freelancer who can work from the comfort of my home, primarily communicate through email, and make my own hours/routine! 💚 it’s also a big privilege to be able to do any of this too and I’m incredibly lucky my design career has taken off! 👋 And a reminder as always that disability is a spectrum: meaning some disabled folks may thrive in these environments, some may not, and some disabled folks may not be able to work at all. #audhd #audhder #actuallyautistic #autisticadults #unmaskingautism

‘So many people’ are getting diagnosed bc the healthcare system has failed GENERATIONS of people.  it’s not easy to get diagnosed, so anyone who has been, is because they have autism, ADHD, or any other diagnosis (it’s not as easy to trick professionals as people think) which means: ⭐️ People have been left struggling with no answers as to why for YEARS, sometimes the majority of their life ⭐️People have often had to wait till they got so unwell they needed psychiatric admissions before  a ND diagnosis has even been considered.  ⭐️ parents haven’t realised their ND traits until their CHILDREN have been assessed Additionally, a lot of ND people do not even claim benefits due to how tricky it is to apply, and how many get denied We should be angry that it’s taken THIS long for people to get diagnosed, not angry at the people getting diagnosed - the healthcare system is the problem.
