When your baby starts doing bicycle legs on their tummy… that’s the beginning of crawling 🤍 1. Those little leg kicks matter When your baby is on their tummy and starts kicking their legs like they’re riding a bike, they’re building the strength and coordination needed for crawling. 2. It’s an early movement pattern Before babies crawl properly, they often wriggle, rock, pivot, or “swim” on the floor. The bicycle legs are one of those early signs that their body is figuring it all out. 3. They’re strengthening their whole body This movement helps build their tummy, back, hips and shoulder muscles — all the key muscles needed to start moving forwards. 4. It means tummy time is working Even if it looks like they’re not doing much, these little movements are so important. Every kick and wiggle is helping them progress. 5. Crawling doesn’t start all at once It usually starts with small signs like leg kicking, pushing up, rocking, going backwards, or turning in circles before proper forward crawling happens. 6. Give them floor time The best way to support this stage is simple: plenty of space on the floor, lots of tummy time, and less time in containers like bouncers or seats. 7. Every baby gets there differently Some babies crawl early, some late, some bottom shuffle, and some skip crawling altogether. The bicycle legs are just one lovely sign they’re learning how to move. #newborn #baby #newmum #pregnancy #babydevelopment

My 7 month old hasn’t been showing any signs of crawling yet (and that’s OK!!) so we’ve been doing these exercises to help prep her for when she does decide to make that move 👶🏻😊 • High kneeling play - builds essential core, hip, and shoulder strength while improving balance and weight shifting abilities • Supported plank - helps babies develop essential strength, stability, and coordination needed for crawling. • Rocking - a crucial pre-crawling milestone that helps babies understand how to shift their weight and build stability. #babydevelopment #7monthsold #babyactivities #babymilestones #crawlingbaby

Have you ever noticed a little flat spot on your baby’s head? 🧐 It’s more common than you might think. It’s called ‘positional plagiocephaly’, often caused by something called torticollis, which literally means “twisted neck” in Latin. When babies spend a lot of time in one position (often a habit that starts in the womb), they can begin to favour turning their head to one side, creating an asymmetry in head shape over time. The good news? It’s seldom a major problem and it’s usually corrected with gentle stretching and repositioning. Here’s what I recommend: 👶 Try simple neck stretches to encourage looking both ways 😴 Once comfortable, help your baby sleep on their non-preferred side ⏱️ Over time, their head shape will gradually even out If you’ve noticed your baby tends to favour looking one way, it’s worth having a quick check-in with your GP or paediatrician, early intervention makes all the difference. #DrGolly #Paediatrician #Torticollis #BabyDevelopment #FlatHeadSyndrome

I genuinely thought my baby was scratching her head because something was wrong… until I learned this 👀🤍 Sometimes, one of the biggest signs of an overtired baby isn’t crying 😭 It’s the tiny things we miss first: Head scratching Face rubbing Ear pulling Sudden fussiness Zoning out after being playful 🥺 Babies don’t just “fall asleep when tired.” When their nervous system gets overloaded, they start showing physical sleepy cues instead 💤 That repetitive scratching or rubbing is often a self-soothing behavior — their little way of trying to calm themselves before sleep 🤍 And the crazy part? Many parents mistake these late sleepy cues for boredom, irritation, or a skin issue… which can accidentally make babies even MORE overtired 😵‍💫 I noticed this so much during longer wake windows. The scratching would increase, the fussiness would begin, and then… meltdown mode 😭 That’s when I realized: ✨ the scratching wasn’t the problem ✨ the overtiredness was Of course, if your baby has redness, rashes, flaky skin, fever, or keeps scratching one spot constantly, it’s always best to check with your pediatrician 🩺 But otherwise? Your baby may simply be saying: “Please help me rest.” 🥺💤 Did your baby do this too? 👀 Tell me in the comments 🤍 📌 Save this for later 📤 Share with a new parent 🤍 Follow for more baby development & parenting tips [baby sleepy cues, overtired baby, baby head scratching, baby rubbing face, baby ear pulling, infant sleep signs, newborn sleepy signs, baby self soothing, baby behavior explained, baby development, baby sleep tips, wake windows, overtired baby signs, newborn care, parenting tips, infant cues, tired baby signs, first time mom, motherhood tips, newborn sleep, baby fussiness, overstimulated baby, infant development, gentle parenting, mom life, baby routines, sleepy baby, baby care tips] #babysleep #babydevelopment #newparenttips #momlife #sleepycue

As teeth push through the gums, they trigger pressure and inflammation, which is why babies get fussy, chew on everything, and have swollen gums. What helps: • Chilled teething rings (not frozen) – reduce inflammation and numb the area • Cold, damp washcloths – simple and effective • Firm silicone teethers – biting provides counter-pressure that can reduce pain • Gentle gum massage – short-term relief • Pain medication (when needed) Infant acetaminophen can be used for more significant discomfort (especially before sleep). For babies over 6 months, ibuprofen is another option. Always use weight-based dosing and your pediatrician’s guidance. Remember that kids teeth for a few years and we don’t want to use medication all of the time. What to avoid: • Numbing gels (can be unsafe if swallowed) • Amber necklaces (choking/strangulation risk) • Frozen teethers (can damage gums) Teething is uncomfortable—but it’s temporary and manageable with the right approach. . . . . #teething #pediatrics #babydevelopment NYC pediatrician Brooklyn pediatrician

In what feels like the blink of an eye, they will: 👶 May: lift their head 🔄 July: rolling starts 💪 October: sitting/prop sitting happens 🧠 December: crawling/rocking starts 🤩 March 2027: furniture walking 👣 April 2027: you might see first steps! As a pediatric physical therapist, I see it every day: those “tiny” movements in the first year build the foundation for everything that comes next! Building those “tiny” skills is what leads to the bigger skills 🤩 ✨And here’s what I want every parent to hear: milestones are windows, not deadlines!!! Some babies roll early and walk later. Some take their time and then take off. Both can be perfectly healthy. ✨As always if you have concerns about your baby’s overall development, discuss your concerns with your child’s pediatrician. 💛 Want help supporting your little one’s milestones? Follow along for more milestone breakdowns from a pediatric physical therapist! 👉 Save this for the days comparison creeps in! 👉 Share this with a parent who needs permission to slow down and enjoy the moment! #babymilestones #babydevelopment #babytimeline #newparent parentingtipsandtricks
