THWelcome to another #JustATipTuesday - Today we’re talking invisible sc decrease, but not just any, in the back loops only!
If you ever tried working an invisible decrease into back loops then you know how awkward it can be. The angle of the back loops makes it difficult to insert your hook into both stitches and virtually impossible to draw that hook through. In fact, most times I’d just default to a standard decrease and hope it wouldn’t be that visible…. it always was 😢
That was until I learned this simple trick that allows you to work a BLO invisible decrease, with ease! Instead of inserting your hook into 1st then 2nd stitch of the decrease, just reverse the order (see instructions below) It may sound a bit awkward but once you get the hang of it, it makes working a BLO inv-dec so much better!
INSTRUCTIONS:
Skip the 1st stitch and insert your hook into the back loop of the 2nd stitch in your decrease. Turn your work sideways (as shown) and insert the hook into back loop of the 1st stitch (turning your work sideways will make it easier to see the 1st stitch) then finish as you would a standard single crochet.

This is the HDC SLST BLO stitch, which is worked like this..
Foundation chain your desired length
Row 1: Sk 1st ch, HDC SLST into the 2nd back bump from your hook of the foundation chain. Ch1 and turn.
Row 2: Sk the ch1, HDC SLST BLO across until there is 1 st left on the row, SLST the last st on the row. Ch1 and turn.

If you ever had to deal with gaps when crocheting around a foundation chain, this tip for you! Instead of working into the loop of the chain, as normal, turn the chain around and work into back bumps. Doing so will create a nicer bottom edge, with clear stitches that will be easier to work into once you turn your work around. And of course it eliminates those pesky gaps!

If you are a beginner and you find the magic ring complicated you can try this method!
1. Slip knot
2. Chain 2
3. Now work all your stitches in the second chain from the hook as usual.
You can use this method to crochet so many things like circles or granny squares. ✨
