Let us analyse the confluences for this particular trading scenario. However, it is important to note that backtesting can only provide limited insights. During backtesting, crucial factors such as one’s psychological state at the time of the trade, which significantly influences successful trading, remain unknown. Consequently, it is imperative to complement backtesting with live market testing.
In the trade example presented, the price exhibits a bearish market structure, characterised by lower lows and lower highs. This pattern was subsequently disrupted by strong bullish impulses, leading to the breach of the most recent lower high.
Upon examining the chart patterns, we observe the formation of an inverse head and shoulders pattern, where the price retraced to the right shoulder, coinciding with the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement level.
Regarding our sell position, the price developed a rising wedge pattern as it approached a significant resistance level. A decisive impulsive move away from this resistance level presented a favorable opportunity for a sell position. Subsequently, the price experienced a corrective pullback, testing the resistance level once again, which aligns with the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement level.

TRBacktesting didn’t build my strategy—trading with real money did.
I never spent hours running simulations because backtesting can’t prepare you for the real challenge in trading—managing your emotions when your own capital is on the line.
I chose to forward test with a small live account because that’s where you build the skills that actually matter. When it’s your money at risk, you feel the pressure. The doubt, the hesitation, the urge to break your plan—that’s what separates theory from reality.
Backtesting might teach you patterns, but it won’t teach you how to stay calm during a drawdown or how to control your emotions when a trade’s moving against you. Only real exposure to live market conditions can do that.
By forward testing, I refined my edge and trained myself to handle the mental side of trading—because in the end, mastering your emotions is what makes the difference between winning and losing.
