Are you considering bringing home a Ball Python? 🐍 Proper care is key to keeping them healthy and thriving! From choosing the right enclosure size (4x2x2 minimum) to maintaining humidity with PVC panels, setting up the right lighting and heating, and providing the best substrate mix—this video covers it all! 🏡🔥 🌿 Their environment should encourage natural behaviors, so add cork bark, branches, and non-toxic plants for enrichment. And when it comes to feeding, frozen-thawed prey is recommended for a well-balanced diet. 📌 Save this post for later and tag a fellow reptile keeper who might need this info! Got questions? My top 5 Ball Python must haves are:👀🐍 1. AN ENCLOSURE! The enclosure is the most important part since this is where you will be housing your snake. You can use tanks (rather glass pvc etc.) or suitable tubs with proper space and ventilation 2.HEAT SOURCE! Ball Pythons are cold-blooded beings so a temperature around 90 degrees is needed for them to thrive. Suitable heat sources would be heat lamps/emitters or heating pads/strips. 3.HIDING SPOTS! Ball pythons preferably spend a great deal of there day in a snuggly dark hiding space so at least 1-3 hiding are recommended. One on the hot side and one on the cool side. 4.WATER BOWL! Water is a essential component to a snake properly shedding right along with its humidity and can help with digestion and potential alleviation of parasites as well. 5.SUBSTRATE! The substrate you use can help improve the humidity inside the snakes enclosure! Though some people may use paper towel or news paper, I recommend something like CoCo Husk, ReptiChip and many more. Once you have at least obtained these 5 key elements for your Ball Python you’re all set to go and ready to bring your new noodle baby home!!!😊🔥 . . . #bre #ballpython #royalpython #reptiles #reptilesofinstagram #snake #snakes #pets #pet #petsofinstagram #bloodpython #burmesepython #reticulatedpython #carpetpython #boaconstictor #leopardgecko #crestedgecko #beardeddragon #animals #wildlife #ballpythons #royalpythons #reels #fire #spotnose

This is why beginners struggle… and no one talks about it. It’s not always because they’re doing something wrong. Most of the time, it’s because they’re being taught the wrong things from the start. A new keeper comes in wanting to do everything right. They listen, they learn, they follow the advice they’re given… myself included!! You hear “handle them more so they get used to you”, “move them to feed”, “deep clean everything constantly”. It sounds responsible. It sounds like good care. But snakes don’t work like that. They don’t build trust through constant interaction. They respond to consistency, stability, and how safe their environment feels over time. Every unnecessary handling session, every time they’re moved, every time their enclosure is stripped of scent and familiarity (especially at the time of bringing your new animal home)… that sense of security gets reset. So the snake becomes defensive. Feeding becomes inconsistent. Behaviour gets harder to read. And the beginner, who’s genuinely trying, starts to feel like they’re failing. But they’re not. They’re just following advice that was never built around the animal, and unfortunately, with how many people around the world are breeding in large numbers, a lot of the advice being pushed is about making animals easier to manage… not understanding them long term. It keeps things moving, it keeps animals cycling out… but it doesn’t set new keepers up for success. The difference isn’t effort… it’s understanding. And until that changes, beginners will keep struggling for reasons that were never actually their fault. Feeding frozen thawed rodents is one of the safest and most responsible ways to feed your ball python. In this video we break down why frozen thawed feeding reduces injury risk, improves hydration, and supports long-term ball python care and husbandry. Live feeding carries real risks. Rodents bite, scratch, and can cause severe wounds, infections, and permanent damage to your snake. Frozen thawed rodents completely eliminate that danger while still triggering a strong feeding response when warmed correctly to natural prey body temperature. There’s another benefit most keepers overlook: hydration. When you properly thaw frozen rodents in warm water, the prey item absorbs moisture. That moisture transfers to your snake during digestion, helping support hydration, proper shedding, kidney health, and overall metabolic function. For species like ball pythons that naturally live in sub-Saharan Africa and rely on humid microclimates like burrows and termite mounds, maintaining internal hydration is critical for long-term health. Proper ball python care is about more than just feeding. It’s about stable temperatures, consistent humidity between 55–65 percent with higher humidity during shed, secure hides, clutter for security, and a controlled light cycle. When husbandry is dialed in, most “feeding problems” disappear. Refusals are usually stress related or seasonal fasting behavior, not stubbornness. Frozen thawed feeding supports: • Injury prevention • Controlled prey size • Biosecurity and parasite reduction • Better hydration support • Safer long-term husbandry practices If you’re serious about improving your ball python husbandry, reducing feeding mistakes, and understanding the science behind proper reptile care Make sure to follow along! 🎯 #exoticpets #reptilecare #snakesofinstagram #reptilesofinstagram #viral
