Controversial ways I raise my corgi according to the internet! What “controversial” ways do you take care of your dog? If I’m being honest, I don’t find any of these actually controversial. Keeping my corgi in shape has maybe been the most shocking “controversial” thing of late! I do not allow everyone to say hi to Wren. I never allow on leash greetings with dogs I don’t know and never when I’m first introducing him to another dog. People love corgis and I love talking about Wren, but I will be using my words and my body to advocate for his space. I know the use of tools and e collars can be an emotional thing amongst some groups of people, but it’s given Wren (and all the other dogs I’ve trained) so much more freedom. I don’t use it often, but it is the only way I’ll let him off-leash for my peace of mind. No free feeding in this house! My corgi is training and working for all his meal! Crates can also be a HUGE topic, especially internationally. Wren loves his crate and if more people used crates, there would be a lot less ER visits 👀 I also have a feeling the no dog parks and doggy daycares is upsetting to some, but I promise there are much better and safer ways to fulfill your dog. There are occasionally some daycares I see that aren’t terrifying, but the exceptions are very, very few. If you have a dog with ANY behavioral issues, I highly recommend pulling them out of daycare. I didn’t mention this in the video, but my use of a flexi can be a hot topic as well! I LOVE my flexi lead and it’s honestly my most used tool for Wren. It’s so funny we can just be going about our lives, feeling great about things, only to post on social media and discover we’re actually monsters 😂😭 The most shocking controversy on my page recently was finding out that my corgi is “underweight” according to keyboard warriors. He’s not, we’re just so used to only seeing overweight dogs. I don’t think any of these should be controversial at all. In fact, I think more dogs could benefit from all of these things. Using tools in training, keeping our dogs healthy and happy, spending time in nature, and training shouldn’t be controversial. Every time your dog pushes himself up the stairs, his hind legs are driving his entire body weight against gravity with almost no leverage. Not once a week. Multiple times a day. For years. Short breeds like corgis already have one of the worst builds for stairs. Short legs. Long back. Low center of gravity. Every step up forces his hips, knees, and lower spine to absorb a load they were never designed to handle repeatedly. The cartilage between his joints wasn’t built for that kind of strain. So we started w a physical barrier between the two dogs and whenever Pocky didn’t pay attention to Pingoos bowl he was rewarded n the gap between them shrunk. Eventually we got close enough that I can fit both of them in the camera 🙂‍↕️ and this has translated well to other treats so much so that they can stand next to other peacefully. BUT it’s important to not punish the doggo or ever feed two dogs from the same bowls. #corgi #foodaggression #resourceguarding #puppytraining #positivereinforcementtraining
