Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the Batadrava Than Redevelopment Project on December 29, 2025, at the historic site in Nagaon district, Assam, marking a significant cultural milestone.
This project revitalizes the birthplace of Vaishnavite saint Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva, founded in 1494, and includes developments around the sacred Akashiganga pond.
Meanwhile, Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also highlighted its role in restoring heritage after clearing encroachments.
Amit Shah to arrive in Assam on December 28 evening for a two-day visit, paying homage at Swahid Smarak Kshetra before heading to Batadrava Than.
Notably, the inauguration features traditional naam-kirtan by 2,000 singers and drummers, with around 60,000 Vaishnava devotees expected.
However, post-event, Shah addresses a public rally at Borduwa and inaugurates projects in Guwahati, including a police commissionerate building and Jyoti Bishnu Cultural Complex.

__The inauguration of the Batadrava Than Redevelopment Project (also referred to as the "Bardowa project" in some reports) took place on December 28, 2025. The project was inaugurated by the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, at Batadrava Than in Nagaon, Assam.
The project aims to transform the birthplace of the 15th-16th century Assamese saint and scholar Srimanta Sankardeva into a world-class spiritual and tourism complex.
Key features of the project include:
The world's tallest Guru Asana.
Guest houses inspired by Sattriya culture.
A research centre shaped like a khol (a traditional drum).
A theatre modeled after a traditional japi (a traditional Assamese hat).
Development on 162 bighas of land that had been freed from encroachment.

Assam Government is likely to start developing the religious place of worship, ‘Batadrava Than’ to an ideal place of art, culture, research and spirituality. Project cost is estimated at around 188 crores.
This ambitious project has been taken up to develop Batadrava Than similar to the famous Golden Temple in Amritsar. Locals expressed their happiness and gratitude to MLA Angurlata Deka for the project.
Batadrava Than in Bordowa in the present Nagaon district of Assam is one of the best known Thans founded by Srimanta Sankaradeva. It is named as SRI SRI BATADRAVA THAN.
Few blueprint of the said project have been revealed by the Public Works Department and NH department recently.
