This hive was hidden inside termite-eaten wood. Once I cut into the gap, it was PACKED with brood — eggs, larvae, and developing bees everywhere.
This colony was heavily reproducing and filled an entire box with brood. I carefully removed the honeycomb, preserved the structure, and relocated them into a hive box.
The best part? They immediately started clustering into the box. That’s exactly what I want to see.

When I opened this roof cavity, I uncovered a massive honey bee colony that had clearly been established for a long time. The honeycomb ran deep into the structure, and I had to keep pulling more and more out.
By the end of it, I had removed a huge amount of honey and completely filled a brood box for relocation. The bees were going crazy at first, but once the brood box was set in place, they immediately started orienting to it.
I left the box on-site for 5–10 days so the colony could fully transition.
This is how live bee relocation in Southern California should be done — protect the structure and save the bees.

ELI completed a live honey bee removal in Rancho Cucamonga, California, and this hive had clearly been established for a while. The dark wax, brood, and larvae told the full story. I carefully pulled the honeycomb, transferred the brood, and relocated the colony safely so they could keep thriving elsewhere.

A swarm is a natural growth process of the hive.
Roughly a third of the hive loyal to the old Queen splits off to mar a new beehive and the new Young Queen takes over the original hive location the colony split from.
Sometimes it can be a newly mated Queen or a Virgin Queen.

This water meter box was BUSY. As soon as I popped the lid, I saw fresh honeycomb, capped brood, and larva throughout the cavity. Those little worm-looking shapes? That’s developing brood — the future of the colony.
I carefully removed and secured the brood comb into a relocation box, cleaned out heavy honey sections, and left the box on site so the returning bees could gather. Within minutes, they were already clustering onto the box — exactly what we want to see during a live bee relocation in Southern California.
I’ll be back in 5–10 days once they’ve fully transitioned.

I was in Claremont, California today rescuing a swarm that moved into a deep hole on the property. I added a tiny wax piece and a frame to my box, gave them a gentle shake, and they settled right in. After a few minutes, they calmed down, and I sealed up the hole with steel wool so they wouldn’t move back in. Another safe relocation and another happy colony in Southern California.
